Ionic Effects on the Stability and Conformation of Peptide Nucleic Acid Complexes
, 1996Peptide nucleic acid (PNA) is a DNA analogue in which the negatively charged sugar phosphate backbone has been substituted by uncharged N-(2-aminoethyl)glycine units.

The stacking interaction energies between nucleic acid bases in A DNA and B DNA are calculated by means of the ab initio molecular orbital method. The calculated values agree well with the experimental values of stacking enthalpy changes.

Alternative conformations of a nucleic acid four-way junction
Journal of Molecular Biology, 2000A crystal structure of a 108 nucleotide RNA-DNA complex containing a four-way junction was solved at 3.1 A resolution. The structure of the junction differs substantially from the "stacked-X" conformation observed previously, due to a 135 degrees rotation of the branches.

The Dynamics of Nucleic‐Acid Single‐Strand Conformation Changes
, 19731 The dynamics of the single-strand conformation changes of oligo- and polyriboadenylic acids has been investigated by a fast temperature-jump technique. Chemical rexalation processes have been observed in the range of 0.1 to 1 μs.

Copper(II)-Nucleic acid interactions—A conformational study
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1979Abstract The effect of copper complexation upon the conformational angles in mononucleotides and dinucleotides was studied using classical potential energy expressions. The geometrical parameters were taken from crystallographic reports on the base-metal complexes.

Quantum-Mechanical Studies on the Conformation of Nucleic Acids and Their Constituents
1976Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the results of the quantum-mechanical computations of the conformational properties of nucleic acids and their constituents, comparing the results obtained by different methods among themselves with the results of the empirical computations, and with the available experimental data as obtained by different ...

Influence of Lipid Membranes on the Conformational Transitions of Nucleic Acids
Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 1986The conformational transitions of nucleic acids which were enclosed in reverse phase evaporation vesicles (REV) were studied by thermal denaturation with optical recording. Cloned fragments of double-stranded DNA containing 179 base pairs and 187 base pairs, respectively, and polyA.polyU were enclosed in REV with a yield up to every vesicle containing ...

Determination of nucleic acid backbone conformation by proton nmr
, 1992In DNA or RNA duplexes, the six-bond C3'-O3'-P-O5'-C5'-C4'-C3' backbone linkage connecting adjacent residues contains six torsion angles (epsilon, zeta, alpha, beta, gamma, delta) but only four protons.
