Nucleic Acid Binding Thermodynamics and Functions of DNA Polymerases [PDF]
This study examines several different linkages between the nucleic acid binding thermodynamics and the functions of three different DNA polymerases. The focuses are correlation of the DNA binding thermodynamics and the functional behavior of Klenow and ...

The Thermodynamic Basis of the Stability of Proteins, Nucleic Acids, and Membranes
1976Publisher Summary The contributions of the polar and nonpolar components of the proteins and nucleic acids can be regarded as constituting the bricks and mortar, respectively, of the two structures. This chapter describes the changes in enthalpy and entropy of reactions as diverse as denaturation, ligand binding, and self-association display a ...

Biopolymers, 2000
The dissociation and assembly of quadruplex DNA structures (and a few quadruplex RNAs) have been characterized at several levels of rigor, ranging from gross descriptions of factors that govern each process, to semiquantitative comparisons of the relative abilities of these factors to induce stabilization or destabilization, to quantitative studies of ...

Kinetic and Thermodynamic Origins of Osmolyte-Influenced Nucleic Acid Folding
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2015The influential role of monovalent and divalent metal cations in facilitating conformational transitions in both RNA and DNA has been a target of intense biophysical research efforts. However, organic neutrally charged cosolutes can also significantly alter nucleic acid conformational transitions.

THERMODYNAMIC PROFILE OF INTERACTION OF PORPHYRINS WITH NUCLEIC ACIDS
2007The binding of a number of novel water soluble porphyrins to nucleic acids (NA) were studied monitoring the changes in Soret region of absorbance spectra, fluorescence spectra and circular dichroism (CD) spectra of formed complexes. The binding modes for all complexes were dtermined. The binding isotherms were used to calculate the binding constant, Kb,

[Thermodynamic models of binding ligands to nucleic acids].
Biofizika, 2004Models of adsorption were considered, which describe the binding of biologically active ligands on DNA templates. The binding is described most comprehensively and in greatest detail by the distribution function, which determines the probability of detecting the preset number of adsorbed ligands on the template.

Thermodynamic Studies of Amsacrine Antitumor Agents with Nucleic Acids
1990The equilibrium binding of several anilinoacridine analogs are compared over a wide range of ionic strengths and temperatures. Although o-AMSA binds DNA with a higher affinity than m-AMSA it is not effective as an antitumor agent. Both m-AMSA and o-AMSA bind DNA in an intercalative manner.

Thermodynamics of Nucleic Acids Enclosed in Reverse Phase Vesicles
1984Reverse micelles and vesicles mimic properties of biological membranes in the sense that they include a small water volume in a charged or in an at least polar surface formed by the hydrophilic headgroups of amphiphilic compounds. Membranes with this type of a surface form the cellular compartments which are the reaction vessels for most chemical ...

[Thermodynamic characteristics of nucleic acid complexes with silver ions].
Biofizika, 1981By means of mixing reaction calorimetry the enthalpy of the complexes formation between Ag+ ions and DNA and dsRNA was measured. It was shown that Ag+ ions are able to form two types of complexes (I and II) with dsRNA. Using the method of the competitive reaction with chloride ions the stability constants of complex formation were obtained for dsRNA-Ag+
