Latent Nucleophilic Carbenes

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2021
Using DFT and ab initio calculations, we demonstrate that noncyclic formamidines can undergo thermal rearrangement into their isomeric aminocarbenes under rather mild conditions. We synthesized the silylformamidine, for which the lowest activation energy in this process was predicted.

Nucleophilic Proteolytic Antibodies

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2000
Proteolytic antibodies appear to utilize catalytic mechanisms akin to nonantibody serine proteases, assessed from mutagenesis and protease-inhibitor studies. The catalytic efficiency derives substantially from the ability to recognize the ground state with high affinity.

Hydrogen Bonding Lowers Intrinsic Nucleophilicity of Solvated Nucleophiles

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2008
The relationship between nucleophilicity and the structure/environment of the nucleophile is of fundamental importance in organic chemistry. In this work, we have measured nucleophilicities of a series of substituted alkoxides in the gas phase.

Nucleophile‐Directed Stereocontrol Over Glycosylations Using Geminal‐Difluorinated Nucleophiles

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2016
AbstractThe glycosylation reaction is the key transformation in oligosaccharide synthesis, but it is still difficult to control in many cases. Stereocontrol during cis‐glycosidic linkage formation relies almost exclusively on tuning the glycosylating agent or the reaction conditions.

Towards Enantioselective Nucleophilic Trifluoromethylation

Chemistry – A European Journal, 2005
AbstractVarious trifluoroacetamides and trifluoromethanesulfinamides, derived from chiral silylated amino alcohols, have been synthesized with the goal of achieving enantioselective nucleophilic trifluoromethylation. The best results were obtained with (R)‐phenylglycinol derivatives, but the ee values did not exceed 30 %.
