A rapid bioassay screen for quantifying nucleopolyhedroviruses (Baculoviridae) in the environment

open access: closedJournal of Virological Methods, 1999
A quantitative bioassay method for the detection of Helicoverpa armigera (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) singly encapsulated nucleopolyhedroviruses (HaSNPVs) in soil is described. Calibration curves used for estimating soil virus titres in environmental samples were generated by incorporating a sterilised soil into a semi-synthetic insect diet then ...

Eicosanoids influence insect susceptibility to nucleopolyhedroviruses

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2009
Nine pharmaceutical inhibitors of eicosanoid biosynthesis (e.g., bromophenacyl bromide, clotrimazole, diclofenamic acid, esculetin, flufenamic acid, indomethacin, nimesulide, sulindac, tolfenamic acid) that increased the susceptibility of the gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar (L.), to the nucleopolyhedrovirus LdMNPV were tested against the beet armyworm ...

Pathology of Anticarsia gemmatalis larvae infected by two recombinant A. gemmatalis multicapsid nucleopolyhedroviruses

open access: closedResearch in Microbiology, 2004
Light and stereomicroscopy examinations of Anticarsia gemmatalis multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (AgMNPV)-infected insects were performed in order to follow infection in its host, A. gemmatalis. Fourth-instar A. gemmatalis larvae were infected by administration of occluded virus (polyhedra) from two recombinant AgMNPV viruses (vAgEGTDelta-lacZ or ...

The nucleopolyhedroviruses of Rachiplusia ou and Anagrapha falcifera are isolates of the same virus

open access: closedJournal of General Virology, 1999
The 7·8 kb EcoRI-G fragment of Rachiplusia ou multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (RoMNPV), containing the polyhedrin gene, was cloned and sequenced. The sequence of the fragment was 92·3% identical to the sequence of the corresponding region in the Autographa californica (Ac)MNPV genome.

New record of nucleopolyhedroviruses in tea looper caterpillars in India

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2011
Tea production in North-East India hit a record loss due to the widespread severe outbreak of a mixed brood of three species of looper caterpillar pests of geometrid moths (Lepidoptera) in 2008-2010. In addition to Buzura suppressaria, two newly recorded geometrids, viz., Hyposidra infixaria and Hyposidra talaca have caused widespread severe damage in ...

Persistence and Distribution of Wild-Type and Recombinant Nucleopolyhedroviruses in Soil

Microbial Ecology, 2001
Persistence of recombinant and wild-type nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPV) was compared in field and laboratory microcosm experiments. Horizontal and vertical distribution of the viruses also was monitored in the field agricultural soil. Mixed populations of the bollworm, Helicoverpa zea, and tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens, in cotton were sprayed five
