Characterization of a new Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus variant causing epizootic on a previously unreported host, Helicoverpa gelotopoeon (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This paper reports the first biological and molecular characterization of a nucleopolyhedrovirus isolated from the soybean and cotton pest Helicoverpa gelotopoeon.

Molecular analysis of the p48 gene of Choristoneura fumiferana multicapsid nucleopolyhedroviruses CfMNPV and CfDEFNPV.

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1999
Attempts were made to linearize the DNA of Choristoneura fumiferana (Cf) multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus (MNPV), in order to improve the efficiency of generation of recombinant viruses after transfection. A unique site for the restriction enzyme Sse83871 was found in ORF p48.

Isolation and Characterization of a Nucleopolyhedrovirus from Rachiplusia nu (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Rachiplusia nu (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is an important pest of vegetable crops widely distributed in South America. At present, its control is based on the use of broad spectrum chemical insecticides.

133 Transmission of Different Nucleopolyhedroviruses by Two Ectoparasitoids – Bracon hebetor Say (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) and Euplectrus plathypenae (Howard) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The transmission of nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPVs) of Autographa gamma (AgNPV), Mamestra brassicae (MbNPV), Lacanobia oleraceae (LoNPV), Helicoverpa armigera (HaNPV) and Xantia c-nigrum (XnNPV) to their relevant larvae by the ectoparasitoid Bracon ...

Diversity and biological activity of nucleopolyhedroviruses of the leafworm Spodoptera litura

open access: yes, 2018
Increased resistance of emerging cotton leafworm Spodoptera litura in Pakistan and elsewhere to chemical insecticides calls for an alternative method of control. Isolates of nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPVs) of S. litura (SpltNPV) were collected from infected larvae in different ecological and geographic regions of Pakistan.

P143 proteins from heterologous nucleopolyhedroviruses induce apoptosis in BM-N cells derived from the silkworm Bombyx mori

open access: yesVirus Research, 2017
We previously demonstrated that ribosomal RNA (rRNA) of Bombyx mori BM-N cells is rapidly degraded upon infection with heterologous nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPVs), including Autographa californica multiple NPV (AcMNPV), Hyphantria cunea MNPV, Spodoptera exigua MNPV and S. litura MNPV, and that this response is triggered by viral P143 proteins.

Managing legume pests in sub-Saharan Africa: Challenges and prospects for improving food security and nutrition through agro-ecological intensification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Pest management technology has been through a number of advances that have, perhaps, moved away from the mass extermination of pests achieved through the advent of synthetic chemicals in the latter half of the 20th century to more agro-ecologically ...

Differential pathogenicity of heterologous nucleopolyhedroviruses on Spodoptera frugiperda corresponds to modulated expression of immune-response-related genes

open access: yesPesticide Biochemistry and Physiology
The fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a notorious invasive pest wreaking havoc on various crops globally. Nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPVs) are viral pathogens that specially target lepidopteran pests. However, the homologous virus, Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SfMNPV), has not been ...
