A Flagellar A-Kinase Anchoring Protein with Two Amphipathic Helices Forms a Structural Scaffold in the Radial Spoke Complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A-kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs) contain an amphipathic helix (AH) that binds the dimerization and docking (D/D) domain, RIIa, in cAMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA). Many AKAPs were discovered solely based on the AH–RIIa interaction in vitro.

Energetic stress in combination with impaired fatty acid oxidation induces sequestration of CoA and adaptation of CoA metabolism

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Computational modelling and in vitro liver cell experiments indicate that medium‐chain acyl‐CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency causes an accumulation of (especially medium‐chain) acyl‐CoAs at the cost of free CoA (CoASH). A substantial decrease in CoASH impairs flux through many pathways essential for energy homeostasis.

Requirement of transcription factor NME2 for the maintenance of the stemness of gastric cancer stem-like cells

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2021
Cancer stem cells (CSCs), which can self-renew and produce heterogeneous cancer cells, are the key factors during tumorigenesis. Transcription factors take essential effects on CSCs.

The metastasis suppressor Nm23 as a modulator of Ras/ERK signaling. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
NM23-H1 (also known as NME1) was the first identified metastasis suppressor, which displays a nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK) and histidine protein kinase activity.

Hydrogen Gas Enhances Salinity Tolerance in Tomato Seedlings by Regulating the S‐Nitrosylation of MEK1

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogen gas (H2) effectively alleviates abiotic stress in horticultural plants. Protein S‐nitrosylation, a key post‐translational modification, serves as a critical mechanism for nitric oxide (NO) to exert its biological function under adverse conditions.

Research progress of Nme gene family and its application in oral squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yes口腔疾病防治, 2016
The Nme (neoplasm metastasis) gene family was previously known as the nm23 (non-metastatic 23) gene family. The nm23 gene was the earliest tumor metastasis suppressor gene discovered by Steeg in 1988.

Leishmania Extracellular Vesicles as a Preventive Vaccine Platform Against Leishmaniasis

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
The potential of Leishmania‐derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a vaccine platform was investigated, emphasizing an affordable, GMP‐compliant production and purification method. Immunization with EV vaccines, either unadjuvanted or combined with α‐galactosylceramide (αGC), induced robust humoral and cellular immune responses, conferring protection ...

The return of metabolism: biochemistry and physiology of glycolysis

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 2, Page 751-803, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Glycolysis is a fundamental metabolic pathway central to the bioenergetics and physiology of virtually all living organisms. In this comprehensive review, we explore the intricate biochemical principles and evolutionary origins of glycolytic pathways, from the classical Embden–Meyerhof–Parnas (EMP) pathway in humans to various prokaryotic and ...

Pan2‐Pan3 Complex‐Mediated Deadenylation Enforces mRNA Quality Control for Infection of the Rice Blast Fungus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 18, 27 March 2026.
Discovery that deadenylation, rather than transcription, acts as the rate‐limiting step for developmental timing in a plant pathogen. Evidence that P‐body integrity and mRNA decay are mechanistically coupled to rapid cellular differentiation under environmental stress. Identification of Pan2‐Pan3 as a pathogen‐specific “meta‐virulence factor” absent in
