In humans, prolonged fasting profoundly remodels the plasma metabolome while maintaining stable levels of BCAA and FGF21. Upon refeeding, plasma BCAAs (valine, isoleucine, and leucine) decline, reflecting tissue uptake and coinciding with a surge in FGF21, independent of insulin and glucose.

Left: Cells with active SAMHD1 can metabolize cytarabine (ara‐C) and fludarabine (F‐ara‐A) to their inactive precursors, limiting their cytotoxic effects. Right: Addition of hydroxyurea (hydroxycarbamide; HU) inhibits SAMHD1, leading to an increase in the active metabolites of ara‐C and F‐ara‐A and a subsequent increase in the cytotoxicity of these ...

Calponin‐3 is associated with epilepsy through the regulation of astrocyte activity
Increased calponin‐3 expression correlates with astrocyte activation in epileptic mice, modulating adenosine metabolism regulators ADK and ENT1. Calponin‐3 overexpression increased susceptibility to epileptic seizures, while its downregulation reduces spontaneous recurrent seizures, identifying it as a potential therapeutic target for epilepsy ...
