Numerical Treatment of Catenary Systems [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2004
AbstractSimulation is of great importance in the development of railway cable systems. Mathematical models and numerical methods for the computation of both static equilibria and dynamic oscillations of railroad catenaries are being derived. These cable systems form a complex network of string and beam elements and lead to coupled partial differential ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS: SACRED NUMBERS AND THE STRUCTURE OF REALITY

open access: yesZygon, 1986
. Although numerical systems have been regarded as static models of a symbolic system and treated as mythological behavior, it is postulated that these systems are more profitably analyzed as dynamic models, better understood as ritual behavior.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Integers in real numeration systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
peer reviewedOur first aim is to study the generalization of the classical properties of the positional numeration systems to the real numeration system framework. Next, we study certain properties of the set of U-integers .

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Taking advantage of groupitizing skills to better understand numeration

open access: yes, 2022
International audienceNumber sense is one of the pillars of arithmetic learning. Among other things, its acquisition allows to understand our numeration system. Understanding this numeration system remains a challenge for many students.

Binary Numeration System with Alternating Signed Digits and Its Graph Theoretical Relationship

open access: yesAlgorithms
The binary number system is the basic number representation in computing. We can encode natural numbers with finite 0-1 sequences. The representation of natural numbers is based on this system. However, this poses problems and is technically not perfect.

Comparative study of various biological markers in infection by HIV1.

open access: yesActa Médica Portuguesa, 1994
A study was performed on 51 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1)-infected patients with a previous history of drug abuse. By the CDC staging system for HIV infection they were mainly in advanced stages of that infection, 67% were in IV-A and 8% in IV-CI.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
