Thin high numerical aperture metalens

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
We designed, fabricated, and characterized a thin metalens in an amorphous silicon film of diameter 30 µm, focal length equal to the incident wavelength 633 nm. The lens is capable of simultaneously manipulating the state of polarization and phase of incident light.

Benzene Shape Photonic Crystal Fiber Based Plasma Sensor: Design and Analysis

open access: yesPhotonic Sensors, 2018
A novel benzene core photonic crystal fiber (BC-PCF) is proposed for plasma sensing applications. The proposed BC-PCF parameters have been tuned to gain high sensitivity, high numerical aperture (NA), and low confinement loss, and modality over the ...

Design of 3D SAW Filters Based on the Spectral Element Method

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are key components in 5G communication systems, and the design of SAW filters with high frequency, high performance and high reliability is a necessary and challenging task. In this work, SAW resonators with $LiNbO_{3}

Particle tracking stereomicroscopy in optical tweezers: control of trap shape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present an optical system capable of generating stereoscopic images to track trapped particles in three dimensions. Two-dimensional particle tracking on each image yields three dimensional position information.

Theory of Optical Tweezers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We derive a partial-wave (Mie) expansion of the axial force exerted on a transparent sphere by a laser beam focused through a high numerical aperture objective. The results hold throughout the range of interest for practical applications.

A Metalens with a Near-Unity Numerical Aperture [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2018
The numerical aperture (NA) of a lens determines its ability to focus light and its resolving capability. Having a large NA is a very desirable quality for applications requiring small light-matter interaction volumes or large angular collections. Traditionally, a large NA lens based on light refraction requires precision bulk optics that ends up being

Large-area, high-numerical-aperture, freeform metasurfaces

open access: yesOptica Design and Fabrication Congress 2025 (FlatOptics, Freeform, OFT), 2023
We design and experimentally demonstrate multifunctional super-dispersive metalenses using a novel gradient-based design framework that enhances nonlocal interactions between nanostructures. We demonstrate its application in high throughput additive manufacturing systems.

A Novel Hexahedron Photonic Crystal Fiber in Terahertz Propagation: Design and Analysis

open access: yesPhotonics, 2019
A novel hexahedron fiber has been proposed for biomedical imaging applications and efficient guiding of terahertz radiation. A finite element method (FEM) has been applied to investigate the guiding properties rigorously.

Permeability of self-affine rough fractures

open access: yes, 2000
The permeability of two-dimensional fractures with self-affine fractal roughness is studied via analytic arguments and numerical simulations. The limit where the roughness amplitude is small compared with average fracture aperture is analyzed by a ...
