A discrete numerical method for brittle rocks using mathematical programming

Acta Geotechnica, 2017
A computational formulation of discrete simulations of damage and failure in brittle rocks using mathematical programming methods is proposed. The variational formulations are developed in two and three dimensions. These formulations naturally lead to second-order cone programs and can conveniently be solved using off-the-shelf mathematical programming

Numerical study of some feasible direction methods in mathematical programming

Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1983
Some feasible direction methods for the minimization of a linearly constrained convex function are studied. Special emphasis is placed on the analysis of the procedures which find the search direction, by developing active set methods which use orthogonal or Gauss-Jordan-like transformations.

Numerical solution methods for multiextremal problems connected with inverse problems in mathematical programming

Russian Mathematics, 2007
An immersion method for the numerical solution of convex programming problems is presented applying inverse problems in mathematical programming. It is shown that the Heward method of centers [\textit{V.P. A study of mathematical programmingmethods for structural optimization. Part II: Numerical results

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1985
AbstractVarious mathematical programming methods for structural optimization are studied. In a companion paper, these methods have been studied based on certain theoretical considerations. In this paper, the methods are studied based on solving a set of test problems.

Some Advances in Mathematical Programming Method for Numerical Simulation of Contact Problems

2007
This paper reviews some advances and applications in mathematical programming method for numerical modeling of elastic-plastic contact problems. Emphases are on the parametric variational principle and quadratic programming method used for analysis of elastic-plastic contact problems with isotropic/orthotropic friction law.

Mathematical Programs with Equilibrium Constraints: Theory and Numerical Methods

2007
The lecture notes deal with optimization problems, where a generalized equation (modeling an equilibrium) arises among the constraints. The main attention is paid to necessary optimality conditions and methods to the numerical solution of such problems. The applications come from continuum mechanics.
