Numerical modeling of contact discontinuities in two-phase flow [PDF]
For convection dominated two-phase flow, velocity components tangential to the interface can become discontinuous when interface boundary layers are numerically underre- solved.

ABSTRACT Background Type 1 plasminogen deficiency (PLGD‐1) is an ultra‐rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by variants in the PLG gene and affects approximately 1.6 individuals per million. The condition is characterized by decreased plasminogen levels and impaired function, resulting in fibrin‐rich lesions on mucous membranes throughout the body.

Compound marine heatwaves and low sea surface salinity extremes over the tropical Pacific Ocean
Marine heatwaves (MHWs) and low sea surface salinity (SSS) events can significantly impact marine ecosystems and dynamic systems, respectively. Compound marine extreme events can cause more significant damage than individual extreme events.

Health Literacy, Self‐Efficacy and Knowledge of Sickle Cell Disease Among Caregivers
ABSTRACT Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a hereditary blood disorder in which abnormal haemoglobin leads to severe anaemia, painful crises and organ failure. Caregivers’ health literacy (HL) – their ability to assess, understand and apply information, and interact with healthcare professionals – is crucial for managing children with SCD, yet ...

Numerical Simulation of a Turbulent Flow in a Channel with Surface Mounted Cubes [PDF]
In this paper we report on a fourth-order, spectro-consistent simulation of a complex turbulent flow. A spatial discretization of a convection-diffusion equation is termed spectro-consistent if the spectral properties of the convective and diffusive ...

Stability and Convergence Analysis of a Class of Continuous Piecewise Polynomial Approximations for Time-Fractional Differential Equations [PDF]
We propose and study a class of numerical schemes to approximate time-fractional differential equations. The methods are based on the approximations of the Caputo fractional derivative of order α∈ (0 , 1) by using continuous piecewise polynomials, which ...

ABSTRACT Background Leukemia is the most common childhood cancer in Mexico, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most frequent subtype. Exposure to high concentrations of benzene has been associated with ALL incidence, particularly in urban areas. This study evaluated the relationship between distance to benzene emission sources and the number
