Numerical simulation of electrocardiograms
This chapter presents a concise overview of various mathematical and numerical problems raised by the simulation of electrocardiograms (ECGs). A model for the propagation of the electrical activation in the heart and in the torso is proposed. Some of its mathematical properties are analyzed.

Numerical simulation of "an American haboob" [PDF]
Abstract. A dust storm of fearful proportions hit Phoenix in the early evening hours of 5 July 2011. This storm, an American haboob, was predicted hours in advance because numerical, land–atmosphere modeling, computing power and remote sensing of dust events have improved greatly over the past decade.

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF BOLTED CONNECTIONS [PDF]
Abstract This article presents the modeling of a complete bolted connection based on a model with one bolt connecting two or three plates. Initially, the behavior of this model with one bolt is analyzed by comparing it with existing bibliography for 3 different types of applied load: tension, shear and a combination of these two.

A fast direct numerical simulation method for characterising hydraulic roughness [PDF]
We describe a fast direct numerical simulation (DNS) method that promises to directly characterise the hydraulic roughness of any given rough surface, from the hydraulically smooth to the fully rough regime.

Numerical simulation of nanofluid flow inside a root canal
Silver nano particles have antimicrobial property which makes them appropriate for disinfection. Due to their antimicrobial feature, these particles are applicable for root canal irrigation.

Numerical simulations of bouncing jets [PDF]
SummaryBouncing jets are fascinating phenomenon occurring under certain conditions when a jet impinges on a free surface. This effect is observed when the fluid is Newtonian and the jet falls in a bath undergoing a solid motion. It occurs also for non‐Newtonian fluids when the jets fall in a vessel at rest containing the same fluid.

The numerical simulation of turbulence [PDF]
In this contribution, I give an overview of the various approaches toward the numerical modelling of turbulence, particularly, in the interstellar medium. The discussion is placed in a physical context, i. e. computational problems are motivated from basic physical considerations.

In-shock cooling in numerical simulations [PDF]
We model a one-dimensional shock-tube using smoothed particle hydrodynamics and investigate the consequences of having finite shock-width in numerical simulations. We investigate the cooling of gas during passage through the shock for different cooling regimes. For a shock temperature of 10^5K, the maximum temperature of the gas is much reduced and the

Direct numerical simulation of pattern formation in subaqueous sediment [PDF]
We present results of direct numerical simulation of incompressible fluid flow over a thick bed of mobile spherically shaped particles. The algorithm is based upon the immersed-boundary technique for fluid–solid coupling and uses a soft-sphere model for ...
