Numerical Simulations of Shock Wave-Driven Jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present the results of numerical simulations of shock wave-driven jets in the solar atmosphere. The dependence of observable quantities like maximum velocity and deceleration on parameters such as the period and amplitude of initial disturbances and ...

C‐mannosylation promotes ADAMTS1 activation and secretion in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
C‐mannosylation is a unique form of protein glycosylation. In this study, we demonstrated that ADAMTS1 is C‐mannosylated at Trp562 and Trp565 in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells. We found that C‐mannosylation of ADAMTS1 is essential for its secretion, processing, enzymatic activity, and ability to promote vasculogenic mimicry. These findings

Bioinspired composite segmented armour: Numerical simulations

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
Nature has evolved ingenious armour designs, like the flexible carapaces of armadillo and boxfish consisting of hexagonal segments connected by collagen fibres, that serve as bioinspiration for modern ballistic armours.

A numerical relativity scheme for cosmological simulations

open access: yes, 2017
Cosmological simulations involving the fully covariant gravitational dynamics may prove relevant in understanding relativistic/non-linear features and, therefore, in taking better advantage of the upcoming large scale structure survey data.

Microbial exopolysaccharide production by polyextremophiles in the adaptation to multiple extremes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Polyextremophiles are microorganisms that endure multiple extreme conditions by various adaptation strategies that also include the production of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). This review provides an integrated perspective on EPS biosynthesis, function, and regulation in these organisms, emphasizing their critical role in survival and highlighting their ...

Numerical Simulations of Driven Relativistic MHD Turbulence

open access: yes, 2011
A wide variety of astrophysical phenomena involve the flow of turbulent magnetized gas with relativistic velocity or energy density. Examples include gamma-ray bursts, active galactic nuclei, pulsars, magnetars, micro-quasars, merging neutron stars, X ...

Numerical Simulation of the Hepatic Circulation

open access: yesThe International Journal of Artificial Organs, 2004
Availability of donor livers and the relatively short preservation time limit the success of liver transplantation. The use of hypothermic machine perfusion could pave the way for expansion of the donor pool. To better define optimal settings of such a device, the feasibility of using a numerical simulation model of the hepatic circulation is ...

In-shock cooling in numerical simulations [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2002
We model a one-dimensional shock-tube using smoothed particle hydrodynamics and investigate the consequences of having finite shock-width in numerical simulations. We investigate the cooling of gas during passage through the shock for different cooling regimes. For a shock temperature of 10^5K, the maximum temperature of the gas is much reduced and the

Mechanistic basis for inhibition of the extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase GES‐1 by enmetazobactam and tazobactam

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

Turbulent particle pair diffusion: Numerical simulations.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
A theory for turbulent particle pair diffusion in the inertial subrange [Malik NA, PLoS ONE 13(10):e0202940 (2018)] is investigated numerically using a Lagrangian diffusion model, Kinematic Simulations [Kraichnan RH, Phys.
