Evaluation of Capacitive Markers Fabricated by 3D Printing, Laser Cutting and Prototyping

open access: yesInventions, 2018
With Tangible User Interfaces, the computer user is able to interact in a fundamentally different and more intuitive way than with usual 2D displays. By grasping real physical objects, information can also be conveyed haptically, i.e., the user not only ...

Learning with Patient Campaigners About a German Drug Scandal

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, EarlyView.
The West German drug Duogynon was internationally marketed as a “hormone pregnancy test” (HPT) between the 1950s and 1980s. In the late 1960s it came under suspicion for inducing miscarriage, spina bifida, and a spectrum of birth defects similar to those caused by the sedative thalidomide.

From the Nuremberg “Doctors’ Trial” to the “Nuremberg Code”

open access: yes, 2022
AbstractGuidelines on permissible clinical experiments were pronounced by the judges on August 19, 1947 at the close of the Nuremberg Medical Trial (NMT). Yet these guidelines were called the “Nuremberg Code” only starting in 1963, implying that only then were the guidelines invested with status as a fundamental bioethics document on proper research ...

Variability in UK Body Donation Information: A Comparison of Bequeathal Information and Consent Forms With Recommendations for Standardization

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The use of human donor bodies for anatomical examination in the United Kingdom is regulated by the Human Tissue Authority (England, Wales, and Northern Ireland) and His Majesty's Inspector of Anatomy for Scotland. This study aimed to assess the variability of information provided to body donors and the associated consent forms across UK ...

Controlling Aggregation‐Induced Emission by Sterics in Nitrogen–Boron–Nitrogen (NBN)‐Doped Tetraphenylethylene‐Like Molecular Propellers

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Nitrogen–boron–nitrogen (NBN)‐substituted molecular propellers are presented as structural framework for aggregation induced emission (AIE) applications. Steric hindrance is revealed to steer maximum‐AIE behavior, leading to refined control over assembly‐induced luminescence.

Tuning the Twist by Molecular Design: A New Strategy for Hexabenzocoronene‐Containing Helical Twistacene

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
An efficient Scholl–based strategy enables precise control of the C–C bond to access the first hexabenzocoronene–containing helical twistacene (NG2). The resulting nanographene shows pronounced helical distortion, high stability, enhanced solubility, and promising redox and optoelectronic properties.

Making Two out of One: Kinesin Motors Driving Plant Cell Division

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Kinesin superfamily of microtubule dependent motors is present in all eukaryotes. Not all of the subfamilies are represented in all kingdoms, and the ones that are do not always show conserved functions. Tight control of the cytoskeleton is essential for proper progression and completion of mitosis and cytokinesis, and key functions are ...
