We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Critical loads for nutrient nitrogen for soil-vegetation systems [PDF]
Members of the UK Critical Loads Advisory Group (CLAG) have calculated critical loads for nutrient nitrogen to produce maps for Great Britain. The results of three methods, based upon the conclusions from the Lokeberg workshop are described below. Two of

Balance design for robust foliar nutrient diagnosis of “Prata” banana (Musa spp.)
The “Cavendish” and “Prata” subgroups represent respectively 47% and 24% of the world banana production. Compared to world average progressing from 10.6 to 20.6 t ha−1 between 1961 and 2016, and despite sustained domestic demand and the introduction of ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Evaluation of a Three-Level Cascade Soilless System Under Saline Greenhouse Conditions
A three-level cascade hydroponic system was designed to enhance resource efficiency by reusing drainage solutions across sequential crops: tomato (primary-donor crop), herbs (mint, peppermint; secondary receivers from primary), and halophytes (lemon balm,

Long- and short-term induction of defences in seedlings of Shorea leprosula (Dipterocarpaceae): support for the carbon: nutrient balance hypothesis [PDF]
The induction of carbon-based secondary metabolites in leaves following damage has been proposed to be a result of a shift in the carbon:nutrient balance, when growth is limited by nutrients in relation to carbon.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).
