NUTRIENT REQUIREMENTS AT HIGH ALTITUDE

Clinics in Sports Medicine, 1999
Travel to terrestrial altitudes greater than 2500 m, for more than 2 to 3 days, results in acute and long-term physiologic adaptations with the potential to profoundly affect the requirements for some nutrients. This article discusses the evidence for these increased requirements and makes recommendations regarding appropriate intakes at high altitude.

Specific Nutrient Requirements

2000
Trace elements, like vitamins, are needed for vital cellular functions. Often they function as cofactors for enzymes. The quantity of trace elements required in the diet to maintain those functions is very small. Dietary intakes range from as little as 20 pg/d to about 20 mg/d. The requirements for macrominerals, such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium,

Nutrient Requirements of Premature Infants

2007
Exact knowledge of the nutrient requirements of premature infants is critically important for the prevention of postnatal growth failure and for improved neurodevelopmental outcome. Methods whereby nutrient requirements can be estimated fall into two categories, factorial methods and empirical methods. Each have their advantages and disadvantages.
