Nutrition education for physicians in the United States is limited in scope, quality, and duration due to a variety of factors. As new data and quality improvement initiatives highlight the importance of nutrition and a generation of nutrition experts retire, there is a need for new physician educators and leaders in clinical nutrition.

Effects of nutrition education
Journal of the American Dietetic Association, 1981A group of 86 male myocardial infarction patients receiving diet therapy in the form of individual counseling and lectures or food-preparation classes and a group of 78 control subjects were studied. The desired changes in food and nutrient intake were greater in the treatment than in the control group.
