Reappraisal of Real‐World Management of Acute Cholecystitis in Elderly Patients Based on the Adherence to Tokyo Guidelines 2018 (TG18): A Multicenter Study on Anzu HPB Surgical Meeting

This multicenter retrospective study analyzes real‐world management of acute cholecystitis in patients aged ≥ 70 years across five institutions, focusing on adherence and intentional deviation from TG18 recommendations. By classifying treatment strategies as TG18‐accordant, more aggressive, or more conservative, we reappraise current practice patterns.

Impact of Recanalization on Liver Hypertrophy after Portal Vein Embolization and the Role of Re‐Embolization

This retrospective study of 249 patients undergoing hepatectomy after right portal vein embolization (PVE) demonstrated that major recanalization–defined as recanalization more than one segment within the embolized liver–was associated with impaired regeneration of the future liver remnant (FLR).

Risks and Benefits of Feeding Enterostomy Creation During Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy: A Propensity‐Weighted Analysis Using the Japanese National Clinical Database

Feeding enterostomy during MIE was evaluated in 19 054 patients from the Japanese NCD using propensity weighting. Enterostomy was associated with higher reoperation and respiratory complications, but lower delayed gastric emptying and deep vein thrombosis, with no significant difference in overall bowel obstruction.

Short‐Term Outcomes and Cost Drivers of Emergency Surgery for Acute Abdominal Disease in Super‐Elderly Patients: A Study in the Japanese Tertiary Care Hospital

This retrospective study analyzed patients aged ≥ 85 years undergoing emergency abdominal surgery, focusing on short‐term outcomes and inpatient cost structure under the Japanese DPC system. Although major complications occurred in 19.4% of patients, more than 70% were discharged home.

Clinical Significance of PD‐L1 and HLA Expression in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Response to Immunotherapy

This study evaluated immune‐related biomarkers in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors after postoperative recurrence. PD‐L1 expression in tumor‐associated macrophages and tumor cells, together with HLA class I downregulation and HLA‐DR expression, were associated with favorable responses to immunotherapy.

Sex‐Based Body Composition Changes in Patients With Rectal Cancer Undergoing Preoperative Chemoradiotherapy: A Prospective Observational Study
