Preparation of Hydrophobic Nylon Fabric

open access: yesJournal of Engineered Fibers and Fabrics, 2016
Surface roughness and surface energy are two important factors affecting the hydrophobicity of nylon fabric. In this study, nylon fabric was treated for hydrophobicity with tetrabutyltitanate (TBT) and octadecylamine (OA) which were respectively responsible for increasing surface roughness and reducing surface energy.

Plastron respiration using commercial fabrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A variety of insect and arachnid species are able to remain submerged in water indefinitely using plastron respiration. A plastron is a surface-retained film of air produced by surface morphology that acts as an oxygen-carbon dioxide exchange surface ...

Chemoselective Sequential Polymerization: An Approach Toward Mixed Plastic Waste Recycling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological protein metabolism, this study demonstrates the closed‐loop recycling of mixed synthetic polymers via ring‐closing depolymerization followed by a chemoselective sequential polymerizations process. The approach recovers pure polymers from mixed feedstocks, even in multilayer formats, highlighting a promising strategy to overcome a
