Nuclear Fox(O1): not so fantastic [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 2018
In this issue of Blood, Kabrani et al1 report that the retained nuclear localization of the transcription factor forkhead box class O1 (FOXO1) is a lymphoma-promoting, oncogenic event in the pathogenesis of Burkitt lymphoma (BL). Recurrent mutations in FOXO1 have been reported in ∼10% of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and BL cases,2 but to date ...

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Copper in Chile - When the Resource “Outside” Becomes a Blessing

open access: yesInternational Journal of Management and Economics, 2014
The article aims at explaining how a small opened economy can effectively deal with a resource abundance problem. The thesis of the essay is a statement that Chile has been able to cope with the resource “outside” by developing proper institutions and ...

Demonstration of an All‐Optical AND Gate Mediated by Photochromic Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A logic AND gate that runs on photons is demonstrated. It relies on two spatially separated photochromic molecules that work in tandem. Abstract The realization of a photonic logic AND gate, i.e. a logic AND gate that runs on photons rather than electrons, and where all steps are controlled by light, is demonstrated. In a proof‐of‐principle experiment,

Clinical Characteristics, Laboratory Profile and Outcome of Children with Vibrio Cholerae Gastroenteritis (Both O1 and Non-O1/Non-O139) and Vibrio Cholerae (Non-O1/Non-O139) Bacteraemia- A Retrospective Single Centre Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2020
Introduction: Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae) infection (O1, O139, and non-O1/non-O139) in children can occur in the form of gastroenteritis and bacteraemia.

‘Oxygen Bound to Magnesium’ as High Voltage Redox Center Causes Sloping of the Potential Profile in Mg‐Doped Layered Oxides for Na‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Na‐ion batteries ‐ Impact of doping on the oxygen redox: The sloping potential of NaMg0.1Ni0.4Mn0.5O2 above 4.0 V is caused by a new redox center (arising from the ‘O bound to Mg’), having a higher potential but being more irreversible compared to the ‘O bound to Ni’.

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Shape‐Changing Multiphase Microparticles from Complex Liquid Crystal Emulsions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid crystalline network (LCN) microparticles are prepared from single, double (Janus), and triple emulsions through a simple and scalable bulk‐emulsification strategy. Under heating, the particles exhibit robust, reversible, large‐amplitude deformations that depend both on the morphology and the liquid crystals director field configuration.
