Innovation adoption by forward‐looking social learners

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, Volume 19, Issue 4, Page 1505-1541, November 2024.
We build a model studying the effect of an economy's potential for social learning on the adoption of innovations of uncertain quality. Assuming consumers are forward‐looking (i.e., recognize the value of waiting for information), we analyze how qualitative and quantitative features of the learning environment affect equilibrium adoption dynamics ...

Estimating causes of maternal death in data‐sparse contexts

open access: yesStatistics in Medicine, Volume 43, Issue 24, Page 4702-4735, 30 October 2024.
Understanding the underlying causes of maternal death across all regions of the world is essential to inform policies and resource allocation to reduce the mortality burden. However, in many countries there exists very little data on the causes of maternal death, and data that do exist do not capture the entire population at risk.

Achiral Nanostructures: Perturbative Harmonic Generation and Dichroism Under Vortex and Vector Beams Illumination

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 12, Issue 25, September 3, 2024.
In the nonlinear regime, circular dichroism can appear even in achiral particles. A condition for its observation across a wide range of nanostructure shapes, materials, and incident vortex beams is derived. Utilizing these results, the condition for observing dichroism under vector beam illumination is established.

A placebo‐controlled, double‐blind study evaluating the effect of orally administered polyunsaturated fatty acids on the oclacitinib dose for atopic dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 35, Issue 4, Page 408-417, August 2024.
Background – Supplementation of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) enables dose reduction of prednisolone and ciclosporin in canine atopic dermatitis (cAD). Objective – To determine if oral administration of PUFA can reduce the dose of oclacitinib for cAD. Conclusion – Oral supplementation of PUFA allowed dose reduction of oclacitinib and improved pVAS,

An experimental and computational studies, evaluating the in vitro antidiabetic and antioxidant activity, in silico prediction ADMET properties of 5‐chloro‐1H‐benzimidazole and its newly synthesized silver(I) complex

open access: yesApplied Organometallic Chemistry, Volume 38, Issue 6, June 2024.
In this research, a new Ag(I) complex, namely, [Ag(5‐Chlorobenzimidazole)2NO3], has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV‐Vis, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The electronic behavior of the compounds were investigated with DFT method. Also, antioxidant and antidiabetic properties of the ligand and its Ag(I) complex were investigated.

A two‐stage solution method for the design problem of medium‐thick plates in steel plants

open access: yesIET Collaborative Intelligent Manufacturing, Volume 6, Issue 1, March 2024.
The design of the mother plate is an important part in the production process of a medium‐thick plate, which includes the combination of sub‐plates and the size design of plate. In this study, a multi‐objective model for medium‐thick plate design is proposed based on the 2D bin packing model.

Triflate's bigger brother: The unprecedented tribrate anion, [Br3CSO3]−

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 11, February 21, 2024.
The tribromomethansulfonate anion (“tribrate”), [Br3CSO3]−, has been prepared for the first time. The anion is, up to now, the biggest brother of the well‐known triflate anion. Key step of the synthesis is the bromination of phenyl‐methanesulfonate by KOBr.

Willingness to pay for agricultural mechanization services by smallholder farmers in Malawi

open access: yesAgribusiness, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 248-276, Winter 2024.
Abstract One of the main barriers to adopting smallholder agricultural mechanization in developing countries is the mismatch between the economies of scale of machines and farm size. Private sector‐led mechanization services hold a promise to address this challenge, but there is a lack of evidence on demand for smallholder mechanization services.
