3D‐Printed Dual‐Doped Ag2Se‐Based Thermoelectric Films With Enhanced Thermal Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Sb–Se dual doping enhances the thermal stability of Ag2Se‐based thermoelectric systems. The compositionally tuned nano‐ink is printed into flexible films by direct ink writing (DIW), retaining improved thermoelectric properties after annealing up to 400°C.

Scan‐Path‐ and Initial‐State‐Dependent Superdomain Switching in (111)‐Oriented PZT

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Scan trajectory and initial superdomain topology govern polarization switching in (111)‐oriented PZT. Automated AFM writing, pulsing experiments, and interferometric 3D‐PFM show that raster scans reproducibly stabilize ordered Type‐I stripe superdomains with constrained variant selection, whereas spiral trajectories generate frustrated mixed‐variant ...

The role of venture‐financed startups in innovation for US agriculture

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract To evaluate the role played by startup companies in the innovation ecosystem of US agriculture, we compile a unique dataset of 6024 new entrants founded 1987–2019 that details their financing lifecycles, annual economic performance, and patenting activities.

ANALYSIS OF VOLATILE COMPOUNDS IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF OAK BARREL USED IN THE AGING OF RUM

open access: yesRevista CENIC Ciencias Químicas, 2020
It is well-known that during aging, several compounds are extracted from the oak barrels that have a positive influence on the sensory characteristics of the rum. The sensory improvement is the result of many transformations that take place among the rum

Cockchafer larvae smell host root scents in soil.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
In many insect species olfaction is a key sensory modality. However, examination of the chemical ecology of insects has focussed up to now on insects living above ground.

Engineering Biochar‐Derived Functional Materials for High‐Performance Supercapacitors: Design Principles, Mechanisms, and Scalable Strategies

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biochar has emerged as a useful and adaptable source of carbon for supercapacitor electrodes. Its value comes from the way biomass chemistry, thermal conversion, and activation conditions shape the resulting pore network, surface groups, and degree of carbon ordering.

CORROSION ASSOCIATED WITH HYDROFLUORINATION IN THE OAK RIDGE NATIONAL LABORATORY FLUORIDE VOLATILITY PROCESS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1961
: : 9 7 7 8 6 9 : = 7 9 9used during the fluorination of fused-salt fuels and subsequent associated operations in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Fluoride Volatility Process was evaluated. Corrosive attack is reported as mils per month based on molten salt residence time or mils per hour based on fluorine exposure time.

Oxidative Fast Pyrolysis Enabling Autothermal Production of Porous Functionalized Biochar and Anhydrosugar/Phenol‐Rich Bio‐Oil From Biomass

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Oxidative fast pyrolysis of biomass enables autothermal production of value‐added products. ABSTRACT Oxidative fast pyrolysis can potentially overcome the heat‐supply bottleneck of conventional fast pyrolysis by enabling autothermal operation while also tailoring product quality through controlled oxygen addition.

Sonication of Yeast Biomasses to Improve the Ageing on Lees Technique in Red Wines

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Ageing on Lees (AOL) is a technique to improve the aromatic and gustatory complexity of wine, mainly by improving its body and reducing its astringency. However, the autolytic process is slow, resulting in high production costs.

Sensory profiling of South Korean grape wines: a comparison of fast profiling methods and evaluation environments

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The South Korean wine market has rapidly expanded in recent years; however, the sensory characteristics of domestically produced red wines remain largely unexplored. This study aims to profile the sensory attributes of South Korean red wines and compare the performance of two rapid profiling methods – check‐all‐that‐apply (CATA) and
