A prior information-based multi-population multi-objective optimization for estimating 18F-FDG PET/CT pharmacokinetics of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesBMC Medical Imaging
Background 18F fluoro-D-glucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) pharmacokinetics is an approach for efficiently quantifying perfusion and metabolic processes in the liver, but the conventional single-individual ...

Objective criterion for evaluation of the quality decoration in ceramic floor tile production prior to the sintering process

open access: yesCerâmica
In the ceramic tile decoration process, the set of variables that can cause hue variation is quite wide and independent of the methodology used in the production.

Cognitive Performance and Psychological Distress in Breast Cancer Patients at Disease Onset

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
ObjectiveMany cancer patients complain about cognitive dysfunction. While cognitive deficits have been attributed to the side effects of chemotherapy, there is evidence for impairment at disease onset, prior to cancer-directed therapy.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Enhanced objective Bayesian testing for the equality of two proportions

open access: yes, 2010
We develop a new class of prior distributions for Bayesian comparison of nested models, which we call intrinsic moment priors, by combining the well-established notion of intrinsic prior with the recently introduced idea of non-local priors, and in ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Depth as Prior Knowledge for Object Detection

open access: yesCoRR
Detecting small and distant objects remains challenging for object detectors due to scale variation, low resolution, and background clutter. Safety-critical applications require reliable detection of these objects for safe planning. Depth information can improve detection, but existing approaches require complex, model-specific architectural ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Objective Bayesian Search of Gaussian DAG Models with Non-local Priors [PDF]

open access: yes
Directed Acyclic Graphical (DAG) models are increasingly employed in the study of physical and biological systems, where directed edges between vertices are used to model direct influences between variables.
