Determination of Cutting Forces in Oblique Cutting

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
This study describes the method of determining cutting force components in oblique turning. The scheme of how the investigations were performed is presented. The characteristic curves of cutting force components vs. thickness of the material removed, tool clearance and tool rake angles are shown.

Document segmentation via oblique cuts

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
This paper presents a novel solution for the layout segmentation of graphical elements in Business Intelligence documents. We propose a generalization of the recursive X-Y cut algorithm, which allows for cutting along arbitrary oblique directions. An intermediate processing step consisting of line and solid region removal is also necessary due to ...

A study of an oblique cutting model

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1999
Abstract The finite deformation theory and the updated Lagrangian formulation (ULF) were used to describe the oblique cutting process in an attempt to develop an oblique cutting elastic–plastic finite-element analytical model. In this paper, an elastic–plastic stiffness matrix equation was first derived.

Precision prediction of cutting force in oblique cutting operation

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
This paper presented a general model for predicting the cutting forces in oblique cutting operation with respect to vector transformation derived from orthogonal cutting process. The developed model is based on that the fundamental mechanics of the friction relationship between tool and material (chip) at the primary and secondary shear zones are the ...

Construction of a dynamic cutting force model for oblique cutting

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 2009
This work presents a dynamic cutting force model of oblique cutting by considering the oblique cutting operation, the relationship among cutting angles, the effects of wave removal and wave cutting on the fluctuation of shear angle, the variation of the instantaneous uncut chip thickness, and the variation of the chip flow angle.

On Oblique Cutting of Cellular Elastic materials

International Journal of Fracture, 1998
It is shown that the previously developed model for the direct cutting of cellular plane allows to investigate also the more general case of 3D oblique cutting after replacing the coefficient of friction at the cutter faces by its effective value. The numerical results illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of the oblique cutting regime.

Equilibrium problem of a plate with an oblique cut

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 1998
The nonpenetration condition for a plate with an oblique cut is proposed. The variational formulation of the equilibrium problem and the equivalent formulation in the form of a boundaryvalue problem are obtained. The analytical solution is given for a one-dimensional case (a beam with a cut), and the qualitative properties of this solution are studied.

Study and analysis of cutting forces on oblique cutting of wood

Journal of Northeast Forestry University, 1991
Obilque cutting of wood is an important form of cutting wood. With the developing of woodworking industry, it is widely used in wood machinary processing such as planing, milling, sawing, drilling and so on. This paper takes oblique planing and helix milling of wood as examples.

An improved model for oblique cutting and its application to chip-control research

open access: yesJournal of Materials Processing Technology, 1998
The traditional model for oblique cutting has two shortcomings, one being that it involves only one machining case where the tool major cutting edge angle is limited to be 90°, i.e.

Oblique machining with a single cutting edge

International Journal of Machine Tool Design and Research, 1964
Abstract The problem of defining the rake angle which controls the cutting process in oblique machining is considered. Experimental results are presented from which it is concluded that the rake angle normal to the cutting edge is of greatest significance.
