An upper-bound cutting model for oblique cutting tools with a nose radius

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1997
The geometry of practical cutting tools is complex, and usually involves both non straight cutting edges and obliquity. It is of great practical importance to be able to predict cutting forces and chip flow directions for such tools. The authors demonstrate the use of a simplified geometry together with an upper bound model to predict the direction of ...

Experimental Research on Orthogonal Cutting and Oblique Cutting of Hardened Steel GCr15

Key Engineering Materials, 2008
Experiment of hard cutting GCr15 with PCBN cutting tools, the influence of tool’s inclination angle and cutting parameters (cutting speed and feed speed) on cutting forces and cutting temperature are studied. A three-dimensional finite elements model using the commercial software Deform 3D 5.03 is developed.

The direction of chip flow in oblique cutting

International Journal of Production Research, 1972
Abstract Instead of the empirical approach, the direction of chip flow is studied analytically. It has been found that the chip flow angle is a function of the angle of inclination, the normal raise angle and the tool and work materials used. Once the orthogonal cutting data of given tool and work materials are available, the chip flow angles can be ...

Analysis of Cutting Forces in Precision Turning Based on Oblique Cutting Model

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
In this work, the prediction and analysis of cutting forces in precision turning operations is presented. The model of cutting forces is based on the oblique cutting force model which was rebuilt by two coordinate conversions from the orthogonal cutting model.

Oblique-cut longitudinal electrooptic modulators

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1971
The minimum longitudinal half-wave voltages are calculated for five oxygen-octahedral crystals with large linear electrooptic coefficients. The predicted values range from 11 kV (LiTaO 3 ) to 75 V (BaTiO 3 ). Experimental results have been obtained for LiNbO 3 and LiTaO 3 .

Oblique-cut LiNbO_3 microchannel spatial light modulator

Optics Letters, 1982
Significant improvements in the spatial resolution, framing speed, optical quality, and space-domain image-processing capabilities of the microchannel spatial light modulator have been realized by employing oblique-cut rather than z-cut LiNbO(3) crystals, high-strip-current (250-microA) microchannel plates, and an acceleration grid in the gap of the ...

Estimation of rake temperatures in free oblique cutting

International Journal of Machine Tool Design and Research, 1986
Abstract A model for analysing temperatures in free oblique cutting with sharp cutting tools is developed by utilising a recent solution for temperature distributions on a rectangular heat source moving obliquely on a semi-infinite conducting medium.

Predicting Cutting Forces for Oblique Machining Conditions

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1982
Using orthogonal (plane strain) machining theory together with certain simplifying assumptions based on experimental observations it is shown how the three components of cutting force in oblique machining can be predicted from a knowledge of the work material flow stress and thermal properties and the cutting conditions.
