Observability of Complex Systems: Finding the Gap

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
For a reconstruction of state and parameter values in a dynamic system model, first the question whether these values can be uniquely determined from the data must be answered.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

A Heuristic Solution Algorithm for a Comprehensive Optimal Phasor Measurement Unit Placement Considering Zero-Injection Buses and Practical Constraints in Power System State Observability Problem

open access: yesIEEE Access
Accurate power system observability relies on the optimal phasor measurement unit (PMU) placement to minimize costs while ensuring complete state observability. However, modeling the effect of zero-injection (ZI) buses remains a key challenge.

On the placing of synchronized vector measurements in network 110 - 330 kV for identification of the Kaliningrad region power system regime

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
A solution is presented for the problem of placing phasor measurement unit to identify the mathematical model of the electric power system in the state space. The criterion for complete observability of the Kalman dynamic system is taken as a basis. As a

Meta‐analysis fails to show any correlation between protein abundance and ubiquitination changes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed over 50 published proteomics datasets to explore the relationship between protein levels and ubiquitination changes across multiple experimental conditions and biological systems. Although ubiquitination is often associated with protein degradation, our analysis shows that changes in ubiquitination do not globally correlate with changes in ...

Controllability and Observability of Fractional Linear Systems with Two Different Orders

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
This paper is concerned with the controllability and observability for a class of fractional linear systems with two different orders. The sufficient and necessary conditions for state controllability and state observability of such systems are ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Automated Observability Investigation of Analog Electronic Circuits using SPICE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the present paper, a computer-aided approach to fault observability investigation of linear analog circuits is developed. The method is based on sensitivity investigation of the test characteristics in the frequency domain.

Conditional observability

open access: yes, 2007
For a quantum Hamiltonian H =H(p) the observability of the energies E may be robust (whenever all E are real at all p) or, otherwise, conditional.
