Insights from Project FeederWatch: Changes in the abundance and occurrence of birds in New Hampshire over the past 24 years [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Changes in the climate and land use over time can lead to changes in the composition of wildlife communities. Using data from Project FeederWatch, we examine trends in the abundance and occurrence of birds documented in the winters from 1988 to 2012 in ...

Suppression of Dimer Correlations in the Two-Dimensional $J_1$-$J_2$ Heisenberg Model: an Exact Diagonalization Study

open access: yes, 2003
We present an exact diagonalization study of the ground state of the spin-half $J_1{-}J_2$ model. Dimer correlation functions and the susceptibility associated to the breaking of the translational invariance are calculated for the $4\times 4$ and the $6 ...

A Review of a Preliminary Quantitative Study and Genetic Analysis for Rare Earth Elements of Ionic Adsorption State in Phosphate Ore Deposit in Zhijin, Guizhou Province

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2014
Recent studies on rare earth elements (REEs) for the Phosphate Deposit in Zhijin, Guizhou show that the occurrence state of REEs is dominated by isomorphism on the basis of the positive correlation between ∑REEs content and phosphorus content.

Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study on the Occurrence of Shale Oil in Hybrid Nanopores

open access: yesMolecules
The molecular dynamics simulation was used to simulate the influence of the composite wall stacking effect on shale oil occurrence. The kerogen-illite heterogeneous wall pore model was established to study the effects of temperature, pore size, and wall ...

Simulation of emotions of agents in virtual environments using neural networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A distributed architecture for a system simulating the emotional state of an agent acting in a virtual environment is presented. The system is an implementation of an event appraisal model of emotional behaviour and uses neural networks to learn how the ...

Competition of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya and higher-order exchange interactions in Rh/Fe atomic bilayers on Ir(111)

open access: yes, 2018
Using spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional theory we demonstrate the occurrence of a novel type of noncollinear spin structure in Rh/Fe atomic bilayers on Ir(111).

Occurrence characteristics of shale oil in the second submember of Da'anzhai Member of Jurassic Ziliujing Formation, central Sichuan Basin

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi
Although China has abundant lacustrine shale oil resources, their exploitation is challenging. Investigating the various occurrence states of shale oil in shale reservoirs provides value for the exploration and development of shale oil resources.

Microscopic Remaining Oil Classification Method and Utilization Based on Kinetic Mechanism

open access: yesEnergies
In reality, the remaining oil in the ultra-high water cut period is highly dispersed, so a thorough investigation is required to understand the microscopic remaining oil.

Ginzburg-Landau theory for the conical cycloid state in multiferroics: applications to CoCr$_2$O$_4$

open access: yes, 2008
We show that the cycloidal magnetic order of a multiferroic can arise in the absence of spin and lattice anisotropies, for e.g., in a cubic material, and this explains the occurrence of such a state in CoCr$_2$O$_4$.

Normal-state magnetotransport in La_{1.905}Ba_{0.095}CuO_{4} single crystals

open access: yes, 1998
The normal-state magnetotransport properties of La_{2-x}Ba_{x}CuO_{4} single crystals with x=0.095 are measured; at this composition, a structural transition to a low-temperature-tetragonal (LTT) phase occurs without suppression of superconductivity ...
