A Microfluidic Multiplex Sorter for Strain Development
A new multiplex method for high‐throughput screening of yeast strains based on glucoamylase production is presented. Droplets containing single mutant yeast cells are incubated for enzyme production. A sorting platform divides mutants by their high‐ and mid‐activity levels.

Trawling Through the Five Gyres: A Microplastic Research Study
Plastic pollution is a major problem in the world’s oceans (Hale et al., 2020). It is estimated that 10–28 billion pounds of trash entered the oceans in 2010 alone (Jambeck et al., 2015). This plastic is mostly microplastics, or plastic bits smaller than

Photonic Crystal Enhanced Microscopy on a 2D Photonic Crystal Surface
This work demonstrates the design, fabrication, and the first‐time test of a 2D photonic crystal surface for photonic resonator absorption microscopy. The designed surface uniformly enhances electromagnetic near fields, achieving > 100% improved detecting uniformity for surface‐captured AuNPs from a blocking biosensor assay aimed for detecting SARS‐CoV‐

Image processing for smart browsing of ocean colour data products and subsequent incorporation into a multi-modal sensing framework [PDF]
Ocean colour is defined as the water hue due to the presence of tiny plants containing the pigment chlorophyll, sediments and coloured dissolved organic material and so water colour can provide valuable information on coastal ecosystems.

The graphical abstract illustrates the coexistence of independent OSL and TL signals, demonstrating that the material preserves TL information even after complete OSL zeroing, enabling a dual dosimetric readout within the same material. Abstract The development of multimodal dosimeters capable of preserving independent luminescent signals is a ...
