ITF and Poleward Heat Transport of Indian Ocean

Marine Geodesy, 2008
A sigma coordinate model is used to study the heat transport variability and the influence of Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) heat transport on the Indian Ocean. The vertical mixing coefficients were provided by the turbulence scheme. The horizontal mixing coefficients for momentum (viscosity) and tracers (diffusivity) were calculated by a Smagorinsky ...

Atmospheric and oceanic heat transport: Simulations versus observations

Climatic Change, 1988
Poleward transport of heat by the atmosphere as simulated by a recently developed general circulation model (GCM) is consistent with earlier GCM studies in being significantly greater than indicated from radiosonde (weather balloon) observations. However, total heat transport by the combined ocean-atmosphere system appears to be approximately the same ...

Measurements of meridional heat transport by ocean currents

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1962
The meridional transport of heat by ocean currents in the northern hemisphere, as calculated from heat-balance maps of the oceans compiled by Budyko and Albrecht, is compared with a similar calculation by Sverdrup. The transports are in best agreement in the northern part of the North Atlantic.

On Meridional Heat Transports in the World Ocean

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1982
Abstract Updated estimates of meridional heat transport in the Atlantic Ocean water body derived from the surface energy badget agree with the evaluation of hydrographic sections, annual mean northward transports being about 8 and 11 × 1014 W at 30°8 and 25°N, respectively. For the World Ocean as a whole, a southward transport of 6 × 1014 W is obtained
