High Wind Geophysical Model Function Modeling for the HY-2A Scatterometer Using Neural Network

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Under low to medium wind speeds and no rainfall, the retrieved vector wind from a scatterometer is accurate and reliable. However, under high wind conditions, the currently used geophysical model function (GMF), such as NSCAT-2, for wind vector retrieval

A New Approach for Ocean Surface Wind Speed Retrieval Using Sentinel-1 Dual-Polarized Imagery

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has the capability to observe ocean surface winds with a high spatial resolution, even under extreme conditions. The purpose of this work was to develop a new method for wind speed retrieval with the combination of SAR ...

Auto-correlation analysis of ocean surface wind vectors

open access: yesJournal of Earth System Science, 2002
The nature of the inherent temporal variability of surface winds is analyzed by comparison of winds obtained through different measurement methods. In this work, an auto-correlation analysis of a time series data of surface winds measuredin situ by a deep water buoy in the Indian Ocean has been carried out.

Measurement of ocean wind vector by an airborne, imaging polarimetric radiometer [PDF]

open access: yesRadio Science, 1998
Airborne measurements of the sea surface have been carried out with an imaging polarimetric 16‐GHz radiometer system, aimed at determining the wind direction. The radiometer system features a high‐speed digital correlator, and it measures all four parameters of the brightness temperature Stokes vector simultaneously.

Evaluation of Spaceborne GNSS-R Retrieved Ocean Surface Wind Speed with Multiple Datasets

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Spaceborne Global Navigation Satellite Systems-Reflectometry (GNSS-R) can estimate the geophysical parameters by receiving Earth’s surface reflected signals. The CYclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) mission with eight microsatellites

Ionic Gating of Liquid‐Crystal‐Like Pteridine Assemblies Enables Tunable Light Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Tunable optical properties emerge through developmentally regulated ionic gating, which transforms disordered, ultraviolet (UV)‐absorbing organelles into concentrically ordered, liquid‐crystal‐like light scatterers. By integrating analyses of pteridine composition, potassium‐dependent assembly, hierarchical ultrastructure, and optical behavior, the ...

Ocean Winds and Turbulent Air-Sea Fluxes Inferred From Remote Sensing [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2010
Surface turbulent fluxes are key pathways through which the atmosphere is coupled with the ocean. They provide mechanisms through which momentum, energy, moisture, and materials such as CO2 are transferred between the ocean and atmosphere. Surface fluxes

Enhancing Amphibious Flipper‐Based Locomotion Through Terrain‐Dependent Bayesian Optimization of Central Pattern Generator Control

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A sea turtle‐inspired amphibious robot uses simulation‐guided optimization to adapt its flipper coordination to different environments. Sensitivity analysis and multiobjective Bayesian optimization identify terrain‐dependent controllers that are validated on hardware.

XeraBorg: Neural Control of Tail‐Flick Escape for Backward Propulsion in Cyborg Crayfish

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents the first controlled tail‐flick propulsion method for the cyborg Cherax quadricarinatus. Comprehensive experiments establish a foundational framework for using the crayfish's natural escape mechanism as a locomotion strategy, expanding its potential as an underwater and amphibious mobile robot.
