Octopamine integrates the status of internal energy supply into the formation of food-related memories

open access: yeseLife
The brain regulates food intake in response to internal energy demands and food availability. However, can internal energy storage influence the type of memory that is formed?

Efferent neurotransmission of circadian rhythms in Limulus lateral eye. I. Octopamine-induced increases in retinal sensitivity

open access: yes, 1984
Octopamine increases the sensitivity of the Limulus lateral eye in situ when injected beneath the cornea during the day. The effect of octopamine is dose-dependent with a threshold concentration of about 0.1 microM injected at 1 microliter/min for 15 min.

Isolation and N-terminal amino acid sequence of an octopamine ligand binding protein

open access: yes, 1989
An octopamine receptor photoaffinity probe was used to label membranes from the light organs of Photinus pyralis, a tissue highly enriched in octopamine receptors. Labeling was concentrated in a glycoprotein of 75 ± 2 kDa with lesser labeling of a 79 ± 2

Circadian regulation of Limulus visual functions: A role for octopamine and cAMP

open access: yesCurrent Zoology, 2010
The purpose of this contribution is to review our current understanding of the source and biochemistry of the circadian efferent input to the eyes of the American horseshoe crab Limulus polyphemus and the impact of this input on the structure, physiology

Octopamine plasma levels and hepatic encephalopathy: a re-appraisal of the problem

open access: yes, 1976
An investigation on the blood levels of octopamine was carried out on 70 adult individuals. There was a statistically significant correlation between the levels of octopamine and hepatic encephalopathy.

Molecular and functional characterization of an octopamine receptor from honeybee (Apis mellifera) brain

open access: yes, 2010
Biogenic amines and their receptors regulate and modulate many physiological and behavioural processes in animals. In vertebrates, octopamine is only found in trace amounts and its function as a true neurotransmitter is unclear.

olf413 an octopamine biogenesis pathway gene is required for axon growth and pathfinding during embryonic nervous system development in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesBMC Research Notes
Objective Neurotransmitters have been extensively studied as neural communication molecules. Genetic associations discovered, and indirect intervention studies in Humans and mammals have led to a general proposition that neurotransmitters have a role in ...
