Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Inter-ocular Suppression and Sensory Eye Dominance in Human Vision [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Inter-ocular interactions are a crucial component of binocular vision, providing important insights into how the inputs from the two eyes are combined and compete with each other.

Comparing the feature selectivity of the gamma-band of the local field potential and the underlying spiking activity in primate visual cortex

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2008
The local field potential (LFP), comprised of low-frequency extra-cellular voltage fluctuations, has been used extensively to study the mechanisms of brain function.

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Ocular dominance columns in New World monkeys

open access: yes, 1996
Squirrel monkeys normally lack ocular dominance columns in V1. This study shows that squirrel monkeys can exhibit clear ocular dominance columns if they are made strabismic within a few weeks of birth.

The sedating antidepressant trazodone impairs sleep-dependent cortical plasticity.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
BackgroundRecent findings indicate that certain classes of hypnotics that target GABA(A) receptors impair sleep-dependent brain plasticity. However, the effects of hypnotics acting at monoamine receptors (e.g., the antidepressant trazodone) on this ...

Brainstem and Cerebellar Volume Loss and Associated Clinical Features in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

Assessing ocular dominance: Rethinking the current paradigm

open access: yes
Purpose: To assess the concordance of a binary, motor sighting test of ocular dominance with a new sensory test using a simultaneous, binocular, head-mounted visual simulator to both identify and quantify the eye dominance strength (EDS) at near and far.

Lifelong learning: ocular dominance plasticity in mouse visual cortex

open access: yes, 2006
Ocular dominance plasticity has long served as a successful model for examining how cortical circuits are shaped by experience. In this paradigm, altered retinal activity caused by unilateral eye-lid closure leads to dramatic shifts in the binocular ...

AN ASSESSMENT OF OCULAR DOMINANCE: A TERTIARY LEVEL HEALTH CARE CENTRE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

open access: yes, 2023
Background: Ocular Dominance was first described by Rosenbach. Ocular Dominance is the tendency to physiological preference of one eye over another eye.
