Modulating the tachykinin: Role of substance P and neurokinin receptor expression in ocular surface disorders

open access: yes, 2022
Substance P (SP) is a tachykinin expressed by various cells in the nervous and immune systems. SP is predominantly released by neurons and exerts its biological and immunological effects through the neurokinin receptors, primarily the neurokinin-1 ...

TFOS lifestyle:Impact of nutrition on the ocular surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Nutrients, required by human bodies to perform life-sustaining functions, are obtained from the diet. They are broadly classified into macronutrients (carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins), micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and water.

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

Cooperative role of MDSCs and Tregs in alum-induced alloimmune tolerance in corneal transplantation

open access: yesScientific Reports
Alum, a widely used adjuvant, has recently been recognized for its capacity to modulate immune responses beyond classical activation. In this study, we investigated whether alum-induced expansion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and their ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Establishment of a nomogram model to predict malignant risk in patients with ocular surface squamous neoplasia and ocular surface squamous epithelial tumors

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
ObjectiveTo develop and internally validate a nomogram to predict the probability that a clinically suspected ocular surface squamous epithelial tumor is histopathologically malignant.MethodsThis retrospective study included 92 patients with ocular ...

Observation of the effect of posterior scleral reinforcement combined with orthokeratology and 0.01% atropine in the treatment of congenital myopia: a case report

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2023
Background Myopia has recently emerged as a significant threat to global public health. The high and pathological myopia in children and adolescents could result in irreversible damage to eye tissues and severe impairment of visual function without ...

Modification of the technique for detection and follow-up of diseases of the anterior ocular segment using the conjunctival autofluorescence method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Every person is in constant interaction with the environmental factors, with the sun being the highest energy source. The electromagnetic spectrum includes rays of different wavelengths, with shortwave ultraviolet rays being an invisible, potential ...

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have
