Improving research and insights through the aggregation of on‐farm experimentation data

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 118, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
Abstract On‐farm experimentation (OFE) data, when aggregated across years and locations, is rich with information that enhances agricultural science and informs more specific management recommendations. Standardizing collection of metadata within an OFE network augments the traditionally measured data (e.g., population, yield) to enable broader ...

Improving causal inference from unreplicated on‐farm strip trials with propensity score matching: Application to plant growth regulator effects in wheat

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 117, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract Farmers often conduct unreplicated on‐farm experiments (OFE) to evaluate management practices such as the application of plant growth regulators (PGR) in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Traditional methods of comparing strip average yields, such as using weigh wagons or yield monitors, lack error estimates and are causally confounded by ...

Energetics of the global ocean: The role of mesoscale eddies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This article reviews the energy cycle of the global ocean circulation, focusing on the role of baroclinic mesoscale eddies. Two of the important effects of mesoscale eddies are: (i) the flattening of the slope of large-scale isopycnal surfaces by the ...

Strengthening farmer‐led experiments through agronomic and causal inference frameworks

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 117, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract This study explores how scientists can support on‐farm experiments using analytical methods that align with farmers’ endogenous learning processes to inform their management decision. Four maize (Zea mays L.) farmers across 10 site‐years in New York participated in this study to evaluate the effectiveness of a nitrogen‐fixing inoculant (NFI ...

A Bayesian approach to assessing uncertainty in the effect of fertilization strategies on paddy rice yield via multiple on-farm experiments

open access: yesPlant Production Science
The surge in global agricultural input prices, particularly for nitrogen (N) fertilizers, has presented challenges for farmers facing stagnant crop prices and rising production costs.

Responsible Data Governance of Neuroscience Big Data [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroinformatics, 2019
Current discussions of the ethical aspects of big data are shaped by concerns regarding the social consequences of both the widespread adoption of machine learning and the ways in which biases in data can be replicated and perpetuated. We instead focus here on the ethical issues arising from the use of big data in international neuroscience ...

Diagnosis melanoma with artificial intelligence systems: A meta‐analysis study and systematic review

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 39, Issue 11, Page 1912-1922, November 2025.
This meta‐analysis evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of AI‐based skin cancer models. The pooled AUC was 0.96, with sensitivity and specificity of 0.89 and 0.92, respectively. Hybrid models demonstrated superior performance (AUC: 0.98) compared to single DL (AUC:0.95) and ML (AUC:0.95) models.

Heaving Induced by PDO Driving Abyssal Water Decadal Variability in the Eastern Philippine Sea

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 19, 16 October 2025.
Abstract The abyssal ocean serves as a significant heat reservoir in the Earth system, essential for regulating global energy and carbon balance. Previous studies indicate that climate modes primarily affect thermohaline conditions above 1,000 m, but their direct influence on the abyssal ocean remains uncertain.

Revisiting the Kuroshio Frontal Eddies in the East China Sea: Insights From the Eddy Energy Budget

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Kuroshio frontal eddies in the East China Sea (ECS) have been observed and investigated for a long time; however, the energetics of frontal eddy‐mean flow interactions remain unclear. In this study, we revisit the Kuroshio frontal eddies in the ECS from the perspective of the eddy energy budget using an eddy‐resolving ocean general circulation

Opposite Variability of Indonesian Throughflow and South China Sea Throughflow in the Sulawesi Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Based on a high-resolution (0.1° × 0.1°) regional ocean model covering the entire northern Pacific, this study investigated the seasonal and interannual variability of the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) and the South China Sea Throughflow (SCSTF) as well ...
