Structural basis for the inhibition of RecBCD by Gam and its synergistic antibacterial effect with quinolones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Our previous paper (Wilkinson et al, 2016) used high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy to solve the structure of the Escherichia coli RecBCD complex, which acts in both the repair of double-stranded DNA breaks and the degradation of bacteriophage DNA ...

Magnetic Pinecone Biochar‐Activated Peroxymonosulfate for Efficient Sulfamethoxazole Degradation: Performance, Mechanism, and Toxicity Analysis

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study successfully prepared magnetic iron/cobalt codoped biochar catalyst (CFSBC) using a one‐step calcination method. The morphology and structure of the material were systematically characterized using SEM, XRD, FTIR, TEM, BET, Raman, VSM, and XPS techniques. The effects of key parameters such as catalyst dosage, peroxymonosulfate (PMS)

Emergence of Staphylococcus aureus Resistance to Antimicrobial Peptides Nisin, NZ2114 and Bacitracin Involves Multiple Phenotypic Changes

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The AMP‐induced mutant Staphylococcus aureus strain nzR showed increased resistance, five gene mutations, and decreased surface anion levels. AMPs affect the NDH‐2 protein encoded by ndh gene inhibiting the growth of S. aureus. The deletion of the ndh gene promotes the development of AMPs resistance.

3-Phenylpropan-1-Amine Enhanced Susceptibility of Serratia marcescens to Ofloxacin by Occluding Quorum Sensing

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Serratia marcescens (S. marcescens) is an environmental bacterium that causes infections with high morbidity and mortality. Notably, infections caused by multidrug-resistant S. marcescens have become a global public health issue. Therefore, the discovery

Population pharmacokinetics of levofloxacin in breastmilk in patients with rifampicin‐resistant tuberculosis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Levofloxacin is a widely used antibiotic included in rifampicin‐resistant tuberculosis (RR‐TB) treatment. Data describing levofloxacin concentrations in breastmilk and infant exposure are limited. We analysed data from two South African studies of breastfeeding women receiving levofloxacin (750–1000 mg daily) for RR‐TB.

Does the adoption of EUCAST susceptibility breakpoints affect the selection of antimicrobials to treat acute community-acquired respiratory tract infections? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: In several European Countries, by the end of 2012, CLSI guidelines will be replaced by EUCAST. We compared antimicrobial susceptibility results of a large number of respiratory pathogens using both EUCAST and previously adopted CLSI criteria ...
