MEASUREMENT OF THIN OIL FILM THICKNESS USING ULTRASONIC TECHNIQUE
Modern Physics Letters B, 2008An application of ultrasonic technique is attempted for the purpose of measuring thin oil film thickness between two surfaces. The amplitude of the wave reflected from the boundary is vary depending on film thickness, because the ultrasonic wave emitted to the interface between two surfaces does multiple reflection and interference in oil film ...

Layered oil slip model for investigation of film thickness behaviours at high speed conditions
Tribology International, 2019A layered oil slip model considering the slip and thermal effect is proposed to explore the mechanism of film thickness behaviours at high speed. The modified Reynolds equation considering the interfacial slip is derived and the limiting shear stress of ...

The Measurement of Oil-Film Thickness in Gear Teeth
Journal of Basic Engineering, 1960The voltage drop across thin oil films when a constant current of 1 amp is passed, i.e., the discharge voltage, is used to measure the oil-film thickness between loaded gear teeth while running. It is found that the thickness at the pitch line is between 1 and 4 × 10−4 in., which varies slightly with the viscosity and rather more strongly with load ...

Internal floating-roof tank (IFRT) is widely used to store light oil products, but there exist oil evaporation from the rim gap of the floating deck and oil vapor diffusion into the atmosphere from several vents on the tank wall or tank roof.

Film thickness anomalies in very thin elastohydrodynamic oil films
1997Experimental studies of very thin elastohydrodynamic (EHD) oil films have shown, or suggested, that several aspects of lubricant behaviour do not fully conform to the model presumed by classical EHD theory. This study examines three forms of behaviour which appear to be anomalous.

Thin oil-film thickness distribution measurement using ultrasonic arrays
NDT & E International, 2008Abstract This paper describes an approach for calculating the oil-film thickness distribution in machine elements using an ultrasonic array, based on the measurement of normal and oblique incidence reflection coefficients. An experimental system is described in which a high-precision digital piezoelectric translator (DPT) is used to controllably ...

Oil Film thickness Indicators for Sleeve-type Bearings
Scientific Lubrication, 1951In studies of engines and engine lubricants, it is often desirable to measure clearances between shafts and sleeve—or journal-type bearings during operation. However, it is usually rather difficult to obtain such measurements without affecting the operation, particularly at high speeds. A method recently developed by M. L.

Simultaneous monitoring of oil film thickness and temperature in fluid film bearings
Tribology International, 2001This paper reports on the application of an eddy current sensor with an active compensation for changes in sensor temperature to simultaneous monitoring oil film thickness and temperature in a tilting pad thrust bearing. Sensor design, calibration procedure, sensitivity and accuracy are described.
