Control Methods for Mineral Oil Mists
Applied Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, 2003Effective mist collection is important, but it is not the only determinant of mist concentration in plant air. Oil-based metalworking fluids such as straight and soluble oils contain semivolatile hydrocarbons. When these fluids form a mist, their semivolatile components partition between the vapor and mist phases depending on the makeup of the mist and

Sampling Methods for Oil Mist in Industry
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1964Abstract Satisfactory reproducibility, sensitivity and efficiency were found in samples for oil mist concentration taken by either the electrostatic precipitator or by glass fiber filters. Membrane filters and standard laboratory filter papers were unsuitable.

Metalworking Fluids: Oil Mist and Beyond
Applied Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, 2003This article is based upon my own experiences with metalworking fluids and the adverse health effects and medical conditions associated with exposure to metalworking fluids. I have researched and witnessed the benefits that can be achieved when metalworking fluids are properly maintained and managed. My experiences have provided insight into how a shop

Respiratory response of guinea pigs to oil mists
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1979Respiratory function was measured in guinea pigs exposed for one hour to submicrometer oil mists. Five oils were used: medicinal grade mineral oil, laboratory grade paraffin oil, light lubricating oil, unused motor oil and used motor oil. The last three oils were also studied after having been reacted with sulfur dioxide.

Coolant and oil mist reduction in grinding processes
International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management, 2007Coolants are widely used because of their positive effects on workpiece finish and grinding wheel life. In order to reduce the severity of workplace environment, the reduction of coolant and the oil mist in grinding are important issues because most workers are directly exposed to them.

Oil-Mist Studies, Environmental Evaluation and Control
Archives of Environmental Health: An International Journal, 1970A series of air-sampling surveys were conducted in the pressrooms of the New York Times. They provided the quantitative data needed for the determination of the time-weighted average ink-mist exposures for the pressroom personnel, the particle-size distribution of the ink mist and the fraction "respirable," the variation of the particle concentration ...

Simple optical method for measuring oil-mist lubrication
2017 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2017Oil-mist is often used for minimum quantity lubrication of mechanical tools. For the measurement of the oil flow, inside compressed air, we propose a simple optical sensor, realized by a led source and a photodiode. The scattering spectrum, due to the oil particles, provides information about oil percentage and flow speed.
