Polysulfides From Inverse Vulcanization Used in Electronic Tongues for Heavy Metal Sensing

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the polysulfide‐based e‐tongue system. ABSTRACT Polysulfides (PS) are versatile sulfur‐rich polymers synthesized via the inverse vulcanization of elemental sulfur, a simple one‐pot method that transforms an abundant, low‐cost residue into a functional material. In this work, we employed different PS structures as sensing units

Enhanced Thermal Stability and Antibacterial Properties of Biodegradable Chitosan Composite Films Reinforced With Clove Essential Oil and Graphene Oxide

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
This study developed biodegradable chitosan films reinforced with clove essential oil and graphene oxide. The films exhibit hydrophobicity, strong antibacterial properties, and improved thermal stability. The films could maintain their antibacterial efficacy after 28 days of storage.

Solid State Polymerization on Poly(Lactic Acid)‐Based Microcapsules: Process Parameters Adjustment in Order to Design Coumarin‐6 Encapsulation System

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
This work emphasizes solid state polymerization (SSP) as a modification tool for altering the properties of PLA microcapsules (MCs). Therefore, the SSP process is optimized in order to avoid particle aggregation, and its kinetics is studied. Also, loaded MCs are subjected to SSP, resulting in changing release rate.

Recycled‐Polystyrene Reinforced Polyvinylidene Fluoride Membranes: Exploring Silicate Surface Modification for Vapor Passage During Saline Water Desalination

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
An illustration demonstrating the up‐cycling of expanded polystyrene with PVDF for hydrophobic membrane development during membrane distillation. ABSTRACT This work describes developing, characterizing, and evaluating porous hydrophobic membranes for hard groundwater and seawater desalination. The hydrophobic membranes were prepared from polyvinylidene

Hansen Solubility Parameter Guided Development of Furan‐2,5‐Dicarboxylate Plasticizers for Poly(3‐Hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐Hydroxyhexanoate)

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Compatible plasticizers derived from furan‐2,5‐dicarboxylic acid were identified using Hansen solubility parameters for poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyhexanoate) (PHB‐co‐HHx). These plasticizers were synthesized and blended with PHB‐co‐HHx to analyze their effects on the thermal and mechanical performance compared to diethyl phthalate at various ...
