Odors: from chemical structures to gaseous plumes [PDF]
We are immersed within an odorous sea of chemical currents that we parse into individual odors with complex structures. Odors have been posited as determined by the structural relation between the molecules that compose the chemical compounds and their ...

Olfactory variation in mouse husbandry and its implications for refinement and standardisation: UK survey of non-animal scents [PDF]
With their highly sensitive olfactory system, the behaviour and physiology of mice are not only influenced by the scents of conspecifics and other species, but also by many other chemicals in the environment. The constraints of laboratory housing limit a

Background In the olfactory system of malacostracan crustaceans, axonal input from olfactory receptor neurons associated with aesthetascs on the animal’s first pair of antennae target primary processing centers in the median brain, the olfactory lobes ...

This study demonstrates that prolonged rhythmic 40 Hz light flicker enhances spatial learning by stimulating PV interneuron‐dependent neurogenesis. The light flicker selectively activates PV interneurons, which enhances GABAergic support for the integration of immature neurons in the adult dentate gyrus.

Underlying Mathematics in Diversification of Human Olfactory Receptors in Different Loci [PDF]
As per conservative estimate, approximately (51-105) Olfactory Receptors (ORs) loci are present in human genome occurring in clusters. These clusters are apparently unevenly spread as mosaics over 21 pair of human chromosomes.

Olfactory cue use by three-spined sticklebacks foraging in turbid water: prey detection or prey location? [PDF]
Foraging, when senses are limited to olfaction, is composed of two distinct stages: the detection of prey and the location of prey. While specialist olfactory foragers are able to locate prey using olfactory cues alone, this may not be the case for ...

Circuit dynamics of the olfactory pathway during olfactory learning
The olfactory system plays crucial roles in perceiving and interacting with their surroundings. Previous studies have deciphered basic odor perceptions, but how information processing in the olfactory system is associated with learning and memory is ...

This study combined microscale 3D‐printing with 2D Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets to produce electroconductive microfibrous micro‐meshes. By embedding these MXene‐functionalized micro‐meshes within a growth‐supportive macroporous extracellular matrix (ECM)‐based biomaterial, multifunctional biomimetic MXene‐ECM scaffolds were developed.

CD36 is involved in oleic acid detection by the murine olfactory system
Olfactory signals influence food intake in a variety of species. To maximize the chances of finding a source of calories, an animal’s preference for fatty foods and triglycerides already becomes apparent during olfactory food search behavior.
