Neurogenesis in the olfactory tubercle and islands of Calleja in the rat
International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience, 1985AbstractNeurogenesis in the rat olfactory tubercle and islands of Calleja was examined with [3H]thymidine autoradiography. Animals in the prenatal groups were the offspring of pregnant females given an injection of [3H]thymidine on two consecutive gestational days.

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1980
AbstractThe organization of the projection of olfactory bulb output cells was studied in the rat by injection of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) into the piriform cortex or olfactory tubercle. We made single HRP injections into small cuts in the fiber layer of the projection areas in order to enhance uptake by axons and to confine the region of HRP uptake.

Localization of Choline Acetyltransferase in Laminae of the Rat Olfactory Tubercle
Journal of Neurochemistry, 1983Abstract: We report the distribution of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity in the laminae of the rat olfactory tubercle. Within its posterior medial portion, the tubercle contains three parallel histological laminae that can be separated by cutting tangential sections from frozen tissue. ChAT was measured in homogenates of consecutive sections (

Effects of dopamine and norepinephrine on neuronal activity of the olfactory tubercle
Brain Research Bulletin, 1985The effects of iontophoretic administration of norepinephrine (NE) and dopamine (DA) on olfactory tubercle (OT) neurons that respond to lateral hypothalamus (LH) or locus coeruleus (LC) electrical stimulation were studied. NE and DA decreased the frequency of OT neurons which were increased or decreased by the LH stimulation.

Piriform Cortex and Olfactory Tubercle
2014This chapter describes perspectives on the possible functional logic of neuronal circuits in the central olfactory system. The central olfactory system has multiplex pathways and loops that connect the olfactory bulb, olfactory cortex, neocortex, thalamus, ventral striatum, amygdala, hippocampus, and hypothalamus.

Sleep elicited by olfactory tubercle stimulation and the effect of atropine
Behavioural Brain Research, 1981The effects of high-frequency olfactory tubercle (TbOf) stimulations were studied on the EEG and behaviour of freely-moving cats. The results were as follows: (1) TbOf stimulation elicited sleep similar in every respect to physiological sleep; (2) statistical evaluation of the results showed that primarily the appearance and maintenance of slow wave ...

Differential projections from locus coeruleus to olfactory bulb and olfactory tubercle: An HRP study
Brain Research Bulletin, 1982The microiontophoretic administration of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) to the olfactory bulb (OB) or olfactory tubercle (OT) in cats and rats yielded similar results in both species. After an OB HRP-injection ipsilateral and contralateral labelled neurons were seen in the piriform cortex, polymorphic layer of OT, magnocellular preoptic region, lateral ...

Effects of Locus Ceruleus and Olfactory Bulb Stimulation on Rat Olfactory Tubercle Neuron Activity
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1988The effects of electrical stimulation of the olfactory bulb and the locus ceruleus on olfactory tubercle neurons were examined in rat models. Ipsilateral stimulation of the olfactory bulb produced excitation in 31% of olfactory tubercle neurons tested and inhibition in 17%.

[Transmitter histochemistry of the olfactory tubercle in the rat].
Journal fur Hirnforschung, 1983The tuberculum olfactorium of the adult rat was investigated by means of neurohistological, fluorescence histochemical and enzyme histochemical methods. Using the rapid Golgi impregnation technique, seven neuron types could be demonstrated which can clearly be differentiated according to morphological criteria.

Projections from the Ventral Tegmental Area to the Olfactory Tubercle in the Rat
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1987The projection between the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the olfactory tubercle (OT) was examined electrophysiologically in the rat. Stimulation of the olfactory bulb (OB) determined if the OT neurons were olfactory‐related. Ipsilateral VTA stimulation produced a change in neuronal activity in 77% of the neurons tested, with 41% being inhibited, 24%
