Convulsant actions of 4-aminopyridine on the guinea-pig olfactory cortex slice [PDF]
The effects of bath-applied 4-aminopyridine on neurones and extracellular potassium and calcium concentrations were recorded in slices of guinea-pig olfactory cortex. Neurones were orthodromically activated by stimulating the lateral olfactory tract.

For successful host location, parasitoids are thought to have evolved different strategies to filter relevant olfactory cues which indicate the presence of the host. Because of their versatility in their ecology and behaviour, as well as their fine tuned

Liver cirrhosis is associated with altered glucocorticoid metabolism related to disease severity
Abstract Background Liver cirrhosis (LC) is frequently complicated by adrenal dysfunction; however, whether cirrhosis drives the coordinated, pathway‐specific reprogramming of cortisol metabolism remains unclear. Objectives We aimed to characterize axis‐specific alterations in cortisol metabolism in patients with LC, those with adrenal insufficiency ...

Dopaminergic modulation of bulbofugal projections in the rat olfactory tubercle
Neuronal activities following olfactory bulb electrical stimulation were examined before and after administration of dopamine and dopamine antagonist in the rat olfactory tubercle. The inhibitory response to olfactory bulb stimulation was attenuated by systemic haloperidol administration, but the excitatory response to olfactory bulb stimulation rarely

Cortex- and striatum-derived neural stem cells produce distinct progeny in the olfactory bulb and striatum [PDF]
Neural stem cells can be isolated from the mouse embryonic cortex but do not persist in the adult cortex. In contrast, neural stem cells from the striatal embryonic germinal zone persist in the adult subependyma.

Perinatal lead (Pb) exposure and alterations to amyloid beta and metabolic profiles in the brain
Abstract INTRODUCTION Developmental neurotoxicant exposures (e.g., lead [Pb]) are suspected contributors to dementia. Dementia is characterized by amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques and dysregulated metabolism. To better understand the relationship between environment and dementia risk, we assessed the impact of perinatal Pb exposure on dementia‐related ...

FoxP2 is a member of the winged helix/forkhead class of transcription factors. Despite FoxP2 is found to have particular relevance to speech and language, the role of this gene is broader and not yet fully elucidated.

ABSTRACT The ventral regions of the hippocampus play a crucial role in emotional responses through projections to the hypothalamus. In this context, the ventral hippocampus sends extensive projections to components of the medial hypothalamic defensive circuit, where projections to the anterior hypothalamic nucleus (AHN) influence both anxiogenic and ...

Complementary Sensory and Associative Microcircuitry in Primary Olfactory Cortex [PDF]
The three-layered primary olfactory (piriform) cortex is the largest component of the olfactory cortex. Sensory and intracortical inputs converge on principal cells in the anterior piriform cortex (aPC).Wecharacterize organization principles of the ...
