Alzheimer Amyloid-β Oligomer Bound to Post-Synaptic Prion Protein Activates Fyn to Impair Neurons

open access: yesNature Neuroscience, 2012
Amyloid-beta (Aβ) oligomers are thought to trigger Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology. Cellular prion protein (PrPC) selectively binds oligomeric Aβ and can mediate Alzheimer's disease–related phenotypes.

Identification and characterization of a gene conferring stress resistance in Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Functional screening identified PcSyn14890, a cyanobacteria‐specific protein that enhances growth and stress resistance in E. coli and Synechocystis PCC6803. Although we expected it to function as a molecular chaperone, it was unable to protect against thermal aggregation of GAPDH.

5-Hydroxycyclopenicillone Inhibits β-Amyloid Oligomerization and Produces Anti-β-Amyloid Neuroprotective Effects In Vitro

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
The oligomer of β-amyloid (Aβ) is considered the main neurotoxin in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Therefore, the inhibition of the formation of Aβ oligomer could be a target for AD therapy.

Passive Immunization with Tau Oligomer Monoclonal Antibody Reverses Tauopathy Phenotypes without Affecting Hyperphosphorylated Neurofibrillary Tangles

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2014
Recent findings suggest that tau oligomers, which form before neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), are the true neurotoxic tau entities in neurodegenerative tauopathies, including Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Biophysical Methods for Attomolar Detection of Compounds Acting on Protein Oligomer States [PDF]

open access: yes
Few protocols exist today that demonstrate repeatable resolution of small molecule interactions with target proteins at extremely low analyte levels, particularly at sub-femtomolar levels.

Protein oligomer modeling guided by predicted interchain contacts in CASP14

open access: yes, 2021
For CASP14, we developed deep learning-based methods for predicting homo-oligomeric and hetero-oligomeric contacts and used them for oligomer modeling.

Characterizing Cutaneous α‐Synuclein Deposition and Seeding Activity in Parkinson's Disease Subtypes

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cutaneous phosphorylated α‐synuclein (p‐syn) and α‐synuclein seeding activity are promising biomarkers for Parkinson's disease (PD), but their clinical value remains uncertain due to disease heterogeneity. This study evaluates these two biomarkers in PD patients to inform phenotype‐specific diagnosis and disease severity assessment ...

Inducing Axial Chirality in a "Geländer" Oligomer by Length Mismatch of the Oligomer Strands

open access: yes, 2014
Helical molecules are not only esthetically appealing due to their structural beauty, they also display unique physical properties as a result of their chirality.

Sustained Intermittent Hypoxemia Induces Adiponectin Oligomers Redistribution and a Tissue-Specific Modulation of Adiponectin Receptor in Mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Introduction: Hypoxemia is a critical component of several respiratory diseases and is known to be involved in the processes underlying co-morbidities associated to such disorders, notably at the cardiovascular level. Circulating level of Adiponectin (Ad)
