Multimodular carbohydrate‐active enzymes often combine different catalytic activities for efficient polysaccharide degradation. In this work, the structural and functional characterization of three multimodular xylan‐targeting esterases, Fl6, Fll1 and Fll4 from Flavimarina sp. Hel_I_48, are presented.

This analysis reveals structural heterogeneity in the lipopolysaccharide lipid A from the cold‐adapted Gram‐negative bacterium Polaribacter sp. SM1127, with variations in fatty acid chain number, length, branching, saturation, and hydroxylation degree, likely aiding bacterial adaptation to cold environmental stressors. Lipopolysaccharide is shown to be

Metal‐mediated IL‐8 binding to heparan sulfate evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
Heparan sulfate (HS) interactions with interleukin 8 (IL‐8) are crucial for immune system response. The structural features of the HS and the environmental entities, such as metal ions, can regulate these interactions. However, it is challenging to evaluate the effect of each parameter on the interactions because of low accessibility to well‐defined ...

The insertion of a fluorescent coumarin unit by using a lysine‐based linker on deferoxamine leads to a chelating agent (DFOKC), whose Cu(II) and Zr(IV) complexes can be used for both optical imaging and positron emission tomography. DFOKC shows increased binding ability for Cu(II) and Zr(II) and improved tumor cell internalization via pinocytosis ...

The stereochemical diversity of the “glycan code” enables similar chiral motifs to arise from both D‐ and L‐sugars. Focused on DC‐SIGN–glycan recognition, two diverse monosaccharide scaffolds, D‐Man (D‐Rha) and L‐Gal (L‐Fuc), maintain the exquisite stereochemistry encoded in the minimal binding epitope.
