Olivine nodules in olivine nephelinite from Tokatoka, Northland

Abstract Petrographic descriptions and a chemical analysis are presented of an olivine nephelinite occurring as a dike in argillaceous limestones and in regional association with a Miocene basalt‐andesite‐dacite igneous suite. The mineralogy and possible origin of olivine nodules carried by the nephelinite are discussed.

Formation conditions of pyroxene-olivine and magnesian olivine chondrules

Dynamic crystallization experiments performed on a Type I and an intermediate Type II/III composition demonstrate chondrule texture is controlled by the abundance of heterogeneous nuclei. This factor is controlled by the maximum initial temperature relative to the olivine disappearance temperature for the given heating time.

Olivine of 446 Aeternitas As an Example of Olivines of A-class Asteroids

A reflectance spectrum of A-asteroid 446 Aeternitas was numerically simulated. Probable mineral composition of the asteroid surface (Px > Ol ∼ Met) and probable spectra of these minerals were obtained. Welding of olivine was demonstrated by grinding it in a ball mill in an atmosphere of about 2 × 10 -7 torr. Most of the sample adhered strongly to the container and grinding balls although adhesion in air is only slight.
