TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Demo 17-18 Resistance Wires

open access: yes, 2001
The resistance of a wire is directly proportional to its length and its resistivity, and inversely proportional to its area. The effect of length, area, and resistivity are shown in this demonstration, which is seen in Figure 1.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Experimental Characterization of Frequency-Dependent Series Resistance and Inductance for Ground Shielded On-Chip Interconnects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents an exhaustive analysis of the frequency-dependent series resistance and inductance associated with the distributed model of on-chip interconnects including a ground shield to reduce substrate losses.

Cross-sectional survey to assess the status of antimicrobial stewardship programs in public Chilean hospitals

open access: yesAntimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control
Background Antimicrobial resistance is a leading cause of death worldwide, with the highest burdens in low-resource settings. Antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP) are coordinated interventions designed to improve and measure the appropriate use of ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

2011 progress towards implementation of a public health action plan to combat antimicrobial resistance [PDF]

open access: yes
In 2001, the Task Force developed an initial Action Plan, outlining specific issues, goals, and actions important for addressing the problem of AR. This document, entitled A Public Health Action Plan to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance, Part I: Domestic ...

The HIV-1 subtype C epidemic in South America is linked to the United Kingdom.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BackgroundThe global spread of HIV-1 has been accompanied by the emergence of genetically distinct viral strains. Over the past two decades subtype C viruses, which predominate in Southern and Eastern Africa, have spread rapidly throughout parts of South

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...
