A Review of Insulin-Dosing Formulas for Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion (CSII) for Adults with Type 1 Diabetes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Dosing guidelines for patients with type 1 diabetes using continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), which are historically based on clinical experience and retrospective studies of patients consuming an American diet, recommend that basal insulin ...

Radiative Cooling by Green(er) Solvents‐Upcycled Polyvinyl Chloride From Drug Blisters Waste

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores upcycling poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) from used pharmaceutical blisters into sustainable radiative cooling materials. Using solvent separation and membrane fabrication, PVC was converted into white membranes paired with aluminum foil.

Improving the Robustness of Visual Teach‐and‐Repeat Navigation Using Drift Error Correction and Event‐Based Vision for Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.

The effect and safety of sleep interventions on suicidal thoughts and behavior – A systematic review and meta-analyses [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: Sleep disturbances are a risk factor for suicidal ideation, suicide attempts and suicide. While recent findings suggest that improving sleep by psychotherapeutic sleep interventions exerts a positive effect on suicidality, there are also ...

A Soft Robotic Device for Targeted Massage Therapy of Residual Limbs

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Residual limb edema after amputation can hinder recovery and delay prosthetic fitting. This study presents a soft‐robotic wearable device that delivers sequential compression through pneumatic McKibben actuators. By replicating the principles of manual lymphatic drainage, the device generates controlled mechanotherapeutic pressure patterns, providing a

The effects of age on behavioral thermoregulation in Lemur catta and Propithecus coquereli [PDF]

open access: yes
Older mammals experience a decrease in physiological function that impairs their ability to internally regulate body temperature. Behavioral mechanisms can be used to alleviate thermal stress on the body, and thus could be an effective strategy for ...

Sleep Alters the Velocity of Physiological Brain Pulsations in Humans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sleep alters I/CSF oscillatory flow, driven by increased respiratory (29%) and vasomotor pulsation (21%) velocities, while cardiovascular pulsations decreased by (22%). Velocity is quantified using optical flow analysis of MREG data. Spectral power increases alongside these pulsations (spatial correlation, r = 0.35 and r = 0.39, respectively ...

Astrocyte Enrichment of 3D Cortical Constructs Enhances Brain Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights the role of astrocytes in supporting neural progenitor cell survival and differentiation after traumatic brain injury. Astrocytes enhanced neuronal differentiation, improved cell survival in co‐cultures, and promoted integration of microfluidics‐based implants with host tissue following implantation. Additionally, increased axonal
