An oligonucleotide probe specific for Onchocerca volvulus

Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1989
A genomic DNA library of a Liberian strain of Onchocerca volvulus was prepared in the vector bacteriophage lambda gt10. The library was differentially screened by hybridisation with radiolabelled total DNA from the homologous parasite, two heterologous Onchocerca parasites (Onchocerca gibsoni and Onchocerca gutturosa) and human liver cells.

Major sperm protein genes from Onchocerca volvulus

Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1989
Nematode spermatozoa, unlike their mammalian counterparts, are nonflagellated crawling cells. The pseudopod of these cells contains the major sperm protein (MSP) which comprises more than 15% of the protein in the sperm. MSP is presumed to function as a cytoskeletal element involved in motility.

Vascular perfusion of Onchocerca volvulus nodules.

Tropical medicine and parasitology : official organ of Deutsche Tropenmedizinische Gesellschaft and of Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), 1989
Perfusion of the vascular bed was achieved in 24 freshly excised nodules of Onchocerca volvulus varying from 0.5 to 2 cm in diameter. India Ink, Microfil polymer, or acrylate perfusates were passed through the vascular supply via cannulation of superficial capsular vessels.

Calcification in adult Onchocerca volvulus.

Tropical medicine and parasitology : official organ of Deutsche Tropenmedizinische Gesellschaft and of Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), 1986
Calcified worm fragments of adult Onchocerca volvulus from patients in West Africa were collected for a chemical analysis. The material contained predominantly calcium carbonate. Some results of investigations on the occurrence of calcified worms in untreated populations are reported on.
