The genomes of Onchocerca volvulus
International Journal for Parasitology, 2000Onchocerca volvulus, the filarial parasite that causes onchocerciasis or river blindness, contains three distinct genomes. These include the nuclear genome, the mitochondrial genome and the genome of an intracellular endosymbiont of the genus Wolbachia.

Antigens of Onchocerca volvulus
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1985Most studies on immunologic responses to Onchocerca volvulus have employed extracts or antigens from related filarial parasites. Consequently, little is known about the nature of O. volvulus antigens. Potential antigen sources include in vitro cultures and physicochemical fractionation of O. volvulus extracts.

The actin genes of Onchocerca volvulus
Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1992The genome of Onchocerca volvulus was found to contain 2 actin gene classes (called 1 and 2) of 2 genes each. The 4 genes are located in 2 clusters (called A and B), each containing a gene class member. Five short introns of 122-207 bp occur within each gene.

Surface components of Onchocerca volvulus
Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1986A technique employing Sephadex G25 gel filtration has been developed for the rapid isolation and purification of live microfilariae of Onchocerca volvulus from subcutaneous nodules and skin samples. Microfilariae, adult worms and L3 larvae have been surface radiolabelled using the Iodogen technique.

Intracytoplasmic Bacteria in Onchocerca Volvulus
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1977Ultrastructural studies on Onchocerca volvulus disclosed intracellular organisms within the lateral chords of adult worms and of the larval stages. In the females the organisms were also present in the oogonia, oocytes, developing eggs and microfilariae.
