Dietary essential oils modulate post‐mortem oxidative damage in trout fillets exposed to slaughter stress during frozen storage

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Slaughter is a critical phase in aquaculture that can severely compromise both animal welfare and product quality. Stress responses triggered during this stage may accelerate post‐mortem biochemical degradation and promote oxidative damage in fish fillets. Essential oils, known for their antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties,

Applied introduction of ecosystem service modeling of marine aquaculture: Approach for estimation of production and net present value (NPV)

open access: yes‬‭Majallah-i ̒Ilmī-i Shīlāt-i Īrān, 2017
Marine and coastal ecosystems have many benefits and different services for humans that marine aquaculture is one of the most important of these services. Southern coast of Caspian Sea particularly Mazandaran coast have great potential for development of

Cryopreservation Of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss) Semen [PDF]

open access: yesIsraeli Journal of Aquaculture - Bamidgeh, 2003
Rainbow trout semen was diluted in one of three extenders (1:3 v/v) containing egg yolk (7-10%) and 10% DMSO as cryoprotectants. The diluted semen was packaged in 0.5 ml straws and frozen in liquid nitrogen (LN2) vapor. For thawing, the straws were immersed in a water bath for 30 sec at 30°C. The best post-thaw motility and fertilization results, 56.67±

Making Waves: The Effects of Whitewater Parks on Fish Passage in Colorado

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Instream structures have fragmented riverine habitats throughout much of the world, including the Western USA. Whitewater parks (WWPs) are relatively new instream structures designed to create hydraulic waves for recreational boating and surfing by constricting flows into a steep chute or drop.

Dam It, I’m Stranded: Evaluating Fish Stranding Downstream of Two Hydropeaking Dams in Northern Ontario

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Globally, there has been an increase in the development and use of hydropower to produce energy. Hydropeaking is an operating regime that is used to meet real‐time energy demands; however, daily fluctuations in flows may result in fish becoming stranded.

Using riverscape genetics to investigate the genetic response of two species and their life-history forms to dam removal

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2023
Barriers such as hydroelectric dams inhibit migratory pathways essential to many aquatic species, resulting in significant losses of species, their unique life-history forms, and genetic diversity.

Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) threaten Andean amphibians

open access: yesNeotropical Biodiversity, 2016
[EN] Amphibian populations are declining due to a myriad of abiotic and biotic factors, including invasive species and pathogens. In temperate freshwater ecosystems, for example, amphibian populations are threatened by the predation of introduced salmonids. Salmonids not only directly predate upon amphibian eggs and larvae but may also transport deadly

Abiotic variables drive different aspects of fish community trait variation and species richness across the continental United States

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Trait distributions provide insight into how niches overlap within a broader trait space. By integrating individual‐level trait observations from different communities, we can explore how facets of trait dimensionality vary across environmental conditions.
