Gonadal Development–Related Genes and a Male‐Specific Genetic Marker Identified in the Endangered Sichuan Taimen (Hucho bleekeri)

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Integrated transcriptomic and proteomic analyses were used to validate gonadal development–related genes and to identify a sex‐specific molecular marker in Hucho bleekeri. ABSTRACT Sex determination and differentiation represent fundamental topics in reproductive biology. Sichuan taimen (Hucho bleekeri), a first‐class national protected fish species in

Thermal tolerance and vulnerability to warming differ between populations of wild Oncorhynchus mykiss near the species’ southern range limit

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Fish habitat temperatures are increasing due to human impacts including climate change. For broadly distributed species, thermal tolerance can vary at the population level, making it challenging to predict which populations are most vulnerable to warming.

Diet of rainbow trout in Lake Rotoiti: an energetic perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We characterised seasonal and ontogenetic changes in diet and prey energy density of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in Lake Rotoiti, New Zealand, to better understand the prey requirements of trout in central North Island lakes.

Comparative study of blood biochemistry in clinically healthy farmed barramundi (Lates calcarifer) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) from freshwater recirculating aquaculture systems

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Barramundi (Lates calcarifer) is an economically significant aquaculture species and ranks among Australia's top five farmed finfish. As global production intensifies, understanding the physiology and health of barramundi is essential to support animal welfare and industry profitability.

The Forgotten Pink Salmon in the Laurentian Great Lakes: An Unexpected Invasion With Insights for Three Oceans

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introductions of species outside their native range, such as pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) in the Laurentian Great Lakes, can serve as unplanned experiments that provide new insights into ecological adaptation. We synthesize available information on the understudied Great Lakes pink salmon invasion and highlight how this case can inform

Predator-driven nutrient recycling in California stream ecosystems. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Nutrient recycling by consumers in streams can influence ecosystem nutrient availability and the assemblage and growth of photoautotrophs. Stream fishes can play a large role in nutrient recycling, but contributions by other vertebrates to overall ...

Digestibility in selected rainbow trout families and modelling of growth from the specific intake of digestible protein [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The experiments aimed to clarify variations in digestibility of dietary nutrients in rainbow trout. Furthermore, the objective was to study how differences in digestibility might be related to growth and feed utilisation at various growth rates.

Effects of the Invasive Round Goby on Swedish Recreational Fishing Values

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The round goby, an invasive fish from the Black and Caspian Seas, has spread to Swedish waters, threatening recreational fisheries. We modeled impacts on the future recreational fishery in Sweden using data from a recreational fishing survey, and estimated effects of the round goby on other fish species. Values attached to recreational fishing

Rayons de la nageoire pectorale comme caractère approprié pour contrôler les souches de truite d'élevage

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 1991
